Sorry to hear about Wildcat! What's the prognosis, or do you really know yet? Elmo had the whole big-deal operation for a urinary tract infection last year....I just hope it doesn't happen again.....

She dropped from 12 to 8lbs over the winter, but it was hard to detect because she's fuzzy and doesn't like to be picked up much. We thought thyroid, from the symptoms but xrays revealed 2 stones which the vet was too concerned about. The urinalysis told the story, he's estimating 25% function remaining. What's that mean, maybe a month, maybe 2 years. We have her on a steroid to increase appetite and try and get some weight back on and potassium supplement to maintain electrolytes. She seems to be taking to the special food ok.
So, we make her as comfortable as possible and enjoy life. In general she seems just fine. It really caught me off guard because we had always thought of her as being 10 or 11, because she was living wild,in the bush, around are former acreage home, but she could be 16 for all we know. So we take solace in the fact that she is having 10+ good years with us and didnt get eaten by the coyotes.

How is Elmo doing since the surgery?

He's doing GREAT. Unlike our dearly departed Mario (who had a marking problem that escalated beyond any control, kitty prozac didn't even work) he has NEVER shown any weird litter box behavior. The biggest problem I have with him is I can't leave bread out (he drags the bag through the house, shreds the plastic, tears off chunks of bread and tosses them around!). We love our animals don't we? Do you ever dress yours up?

OK, so we're still talking about pets, right?? :-) Our dogs have been known to wear "reindeer" antlers at Christmas. Our first dog, Raider(a german shepherd), was photographed on multiple occassions wearing t-shirts and football sweaters. I maintain good relations with the cats by leaving them alone. NOW, I'm really intrigued by the pet album idea.
