Subject: Stuff I would like to hear

Well, things are very interesting all of a sudden. Looking forward to a tour, and hopefully a host of releases and re-releases. There is a ton of stuff we still need on CD. Like for example, the DEFINITIVE Guess Who boxed set (including rarities and outtakes), the DEFINITIVE Burton Cummings boxed set with Deverons stuff and other neat things included; and let us not forget the need (Yes, "need" is not too strong a word here) for an album of new material. (For goodness sakes, there are already 100 or so new tunes that have yet to see the light of day to choose from.) This resumption tour has the potential to be the catalyst for big stuff. And let us not forget, I would not be Rocksteady if I didn't put a plug in for some of the Flavours and Power In The Music numbers to be included in the set... Rocksteady (The players, they come and they go...) (That, Burton is my favorite song from PLus Signs...) By the way, Burton, did you ever play Fool Fool I Met A Fool on the Ringo tour. I heard you do it in Massey Hall in 1976, was blown away by the song and haven't heard it since...

I heard "Fool Fool" during BC's first solo tour here in Calgary. I searched like mad for this song, only to find out it was never released. What a shame. (I was hoping to find it as a bonus track on the re-releases).

I also agree with adding something from Flavors and Power, both very strong albums that haven't received the recognition they deserve.

And Burton, if you read this, I've seen you every time you've come to Calgary, and each time you've surprised me in one way or another (e.g., singing 'Dream' on your UCAA tour, a year later adding 'Mack the Knife' at the Stampede).
Although I'll buy anything with your voice on it, I would vote, for a side project, a jazz album over a Christmas one.
Anyway, what a pleasant surprise 'luxton' has given us, and this board has gone beyond anyone's, let alone Deb's, dreams!
Thanks for making it even more special!

Debbie from Rochester is tickled to death. What started out as what I thought would be temporary escape from the insanity on imusic turned into a real outlet where fans can talk and communicate with each other w/o any b.s. Now we get to talk to the man himself- it's too cool!

Deb, this site is the greatest! I like to quilt, I like to garden, and I love to sing, but I NEVER thought I'd get a chance as an 'adult hobby' to really indulge being a fan to my all-time favorite singer. And it's so much better now than it would have been 25 years ago! (I mean, what do teenagers REALLY know about being devoted fans?) Thanks to Deb, and thanks to Burton, and I hope we all get to chat in person some time this summer!?! -- navygirl

Holy cow, Chevrier, I never knew we were in the same town! I've probably been to most of the same BC concerts as you! Did you catch the free concert at Prince's Island in '78? I was there and my mug showed up on the TV special a couple of times. I was a big hero at high school the day after the broadcast!

(not to be confused with Mike from Canmore...)

Hi, Clark.

I've been to EVERY Cummings performance in Calgary since the mid-seventies that was advertised (I found out too late about his Ranchman's appearance, I believe also in '78) and sure would like to see the TV special again for which the Prince's Island show was taped for. (I vaguely also remember BC and David Clayton Thomas doing a "hits" gunslinging duel in Heritage Park on the show, dressed as cowboys).

I wonder how many other Calgarians visit this board?

Rick

Joe Walsh and I performed A Fool several times on the Ringo tour...just Joe and myself...a few times in England and Germany...as far as Flavours, Artificial Paradise and Power in the Music, your guess is as good as mine if they'll ever see the light of day in cd release...
but my first four solo discs are now out in Canada, and will be released in the States in about ten days on Sony Legacy...I personally supervised the digital transfers with Bill Inglott who is the king of all that , and bellieve me, they do sound better than ever...hopefully someday soon we'll see a huge, appropriate box set of all the GW work on RCA...maybe this summer's tour will help facilitate that...
take care and thanks for your interest...

No, Burton, Thanks for YOUR interest. I didn't see the Ringo tour, but my sister who is 10 years younger than I went to the show. she comes back and tells me about you playing this tune. She had never even heard of the song so I knew she couldn't be making it up. Glad to see that you still played the song even after all those years. It ranks right up there with Crazy Kid and Face Value as one of the finest of your unreleased material. Thanks again for your reply. Mark

With regard to the Deverons...I'm currently working on digital transfers of ten studio cuts I did with the Deverons in 1964 and 1965...these are the only ten cuts ever done in a studio by the Deverons while I was in the band...there will probably be a Deverons cd out sometime this year...as far as the set list goes for the GW tour, we'll make all our final choices once the rehearsals start on May first in Winnipeg...I know for a fact that we'll be doing Show Biz Shoes in the show, and maybe Talisman with just myself and Randy on stage alone...I have scads of songs recorded in my home studio, and now that I'm on line I plan to make lots of them available to the folks that are interested...being on line has rejuvinated my whole outlook on what I do, and it's because of people like you and the others who really seem to care about the songs and the memories..thank you again for making me feel so special...

Burton, thank you for GIVING us the memories, for without you there would be none!

A Deverons cd - WOW - thats fantastic! This is getting better by the minute. If you haven't guessed already, there is plenty of demand for your music! Fred and Mike have the number of people who ordered "For the Fans" and the numbers would be duplicated and then some for anything else you release. I'm looking forward to Heart and Sweet Sweet being released on cd. Any idea of you will include bonus tracks?

Glad to hear that the Deverons songs may finally see the light of day. There is some good stuff there for sure. I have about 6 deverons songs in my collection and I think that they still stand up well from a musical standpoint even 35 years later. In terms of the GW tour, please don't tell us everything. Part of the joy of a concert is hearing the unexpected, like when you did Flying On The Ground Is Wrong back in 1983. Only disappointment was that it didn't make it to either the video or the vinyl. Glad you are feeling "rejuvenated" by the online fans. The music makes it all worth while.
Take Care
Mark

Was Daryl producer on any of these Deveron recordings?
