Subject: When the band was playin'

I was having the most pleasant chat tonight with a fellow Burton Cummings fanatic and the conversation led to the comparison of Live At The Paramount, which has a rather loose and stretched out feel to it, compared to the 1983 tour where it seemed the band very deliberately rendered the songs as faithful to the recorded originals as possible. I have listened to literally dozens of bootlegs of the band over the years and am convinced that the real "fun" of playing live took place in the extended solos and rambling phrases of 20 minute versions of American Woman, which would occur towards the latter half of the show. The band having dutifully performed the "hits" could then relax, kick back as it were and just PLAY!!!! Not that there was anything wrong with the hits. they were great, but I would guess that the band had more fun doing stuff like Saskatoon and AW. Curious to know if I'm right about this...
