Subject: For the Fans

as glad as i am to hear anything from burton,
i don't know why instead of releasing
"for the fans", he didn't go for
something like "up close and alone 2",
i.e covering more of his expansive song-writing
catalogue and with better sound quality.

there are so many great songs left off
UC&A, like "glamour boy", "guns,guns,guns",
" a song for him" and " got to find another way"
(too mention a few, that would be terrific solo),
to blend with the standards on "for".

would give BC great momentum into either
a new solo CD or the the GW reunion.

any thoughts fans?

p.s. go BC
p.p.s. get KY58 on the net please

1) Don't look a gift horse in the mouth
2) It was meant as a token of appreciation for fans on this board, a very nice gesture
2) It would be a lot of fun if he provided a few unreleased songs to get a little feedback, but that is very unusual for an artist to do.

.This isn't THE 'famous' Mark Mars, is it? Wow! (Just having read the Einerson (sp) book, I now join those who know the origin of that line...)hope you are still well sir? ;)

Sorry to disappoint you but, no I am not THE Mark Mars. I didn't realize there was a real Mark Mars until after I took the moniker for the fan club. I read Einerson's book and then discovered the truth. It made me think about changing the moniker, but I haven't done so yet. Anybody have any thoughts of whether I should change my "name"??

I am alive and well, sir (though I am recuperating from a twisted knee injury from skiing) and hope that the true Mark Mars is alive and well also.

Tom (Mark Mars)

I guess it makes sense that you picked a different-name moniker, there are a lot of 'Tom's' on this board (still one of my favorite men's names). makes me feel kind of lame about just going by Heidi/navygirl. I thought of being Brenda Lee....thought that would be too presumptious.....then figured it was too late to change....

Some day there may be an Up Close: The Journey Continues
but for now BC has been meeting with people in LA about
a possible new solo release which we hope would be with
an actual band. The timing would be excellent with a
possible GW reunion- then again a lot of these meetings
never lead to anything concrete.

Journey Upclose? Yech. ;-D Hopefully though, BC's going to've had his fill UC&A, and stay locked into the band mode.
What MMars said about gifthorses was also my first thought. This was a very generous gesture on the part of BC's management (Sam in particular) to have made this music available. It's really lets us diehard fans know that we're appreciated.

the " For The Fans" cd was just that, for the fans. It's not evan an official release, Bannatyne is doing the cd burning himself. I agree with MF, I'd love to see Burton give us some of those songs that will never be released on an official CD

One of the things I heard Burton talking about in TO at the Farm Family Tribute( he got stuck at our table- ha ha) was he as in the process of putting a band together but "this Guess Who" tour was coming up and it was big money.
One thing he said directly to me was KY58 was thinking about going on the internet. Everything else I got from his mouth was conversations he had with people who kept coming up and talking to him. He got stuck at our table for 20 minutes ( God bless those people! The look on Flasher's face was comical!)

...without trying to overstate the point, "for the fans"
really was a great gift (thanks, Burton and Sam....and Fred H.)! To hear Burton doing this "singers material", as opposed to a songwriter doing his stuff, is really something unique...it aint gonna be on a mass- produced CD. Also, we all know Burton wants to move away from the UC&A
direction, so a sequel to the original would quickly become "dated"....the whole unplugged scene was a nice diversion,
but its time to go rockin'....

"Daydream Believer" and "Mack The Knife", as well as a 20 minute medley of some of his favorite songs, and someone still provides a criticism - this is beyond my comprehension. I haven't stopped playing the CD since I've received my copy from Fred, and can't wait for volume 2.
(I also created my own cover, cd tray liner and cd label, and you should see the faces of people as they inquire which store I purchased this cd from).
