Subject: New Book

Hi,
just yesterday got this new book by Vernon Joynson "Dreams, Fantasies and Nightmares from Far Away Lands: Canadian, Australasian and Latin American Rock and Pop, 1963-75".
It is a rock encyclopedia-discography book and most of the entries in that book are by garage, psychedelia, progressive or hard-rock type of bands or artists. Of course Guess Who is there, but there are also Deverons (very short entry), Brother, BTO etc. The book is a little bit pricey (28,00 English pounds), but a valuable guide to those of us who collect records by obscure bands, only problem is, where can one get all these wonderful looking albums. Also one of the revelations in that book was an entry by Hagood Hardy, is he the same guy Guess Who made a song of (meaning Haygood Hardy).

Timo, you are right, the song is about the man. The following is from memory, so if I'm wrong, anybody please feel free to correct me. Apparently Hagood was in the studio recording at the same time as the Guess Who was recording A Wild Pair. Burton was so taken by the name that he wrote the song. Hagood Hardy, most famous for his song "The Homecoming", died of cancer on June 1, 1997.

One good source for info on Canadian music is the Canadian Classic Rock e-mail list on Onelist. You can sign up by going to the Canadian Classic Rock link on my AW page. There's a couple of record store store owners, a few members of former bands like Greg Godovich, 5 Man Electical Band,J. Einerson, record label owner Jamie Vernon (who's also responsible for the Jam music site and the Canadian Music Encyclopiedia and interested in signing Burton) Right now the curent topic is Scrubbaloe Caine,who had as a member Henry Small,who toured with Burton for awhile and did Draggin'Em. If you want to know where to get ahold of anything Canadian,these guys will know.They know what's on cd, what's coming out, where to get it on vinyl Absolute Best source of Canadian music info. I highly recommend it.

Are you sure you don't mean 28.00 English Pounds which would be approximately $67.20 Canadian (at an exchange rate of 2.40).

Of course I mean 28 pounds (twentyeight), but it may sometimes be confusing, different traditions and cultural differences etc. Now I see how much differnce a . or , can
do.
Well me myself haven't yet used to your
way of marking dates with month first and then the day,
because we in Northern Europe do it otherway round.
So it goes.

On an unrelated note, I found out yesterday that a friend's birthday is 31/12/??. Cool day to have a birthday!

Using a comma instead of a decimal is a very European thing. 28 pounds would be written as 28,00 in most European countries, but as 28.00 in North America.
