Look at your lock cylinder and find the wire that shows ground whenever you put the key in and unlock the door. Take that wire and ground it out. That will solve your alarm going off problem!

As far as tapping the wire at the switch, that's the easier way of doing it although you do use more wire and have an extra wire running from your door through your door jamb(usually visible unless you take your door off and put a boot on). Either way, the wires were a pain in the ass to find(door lock/unlock).
