I saw it last night at the Toronto Imax cinema, and made the following brief summations;

1. It was not what I would consider a real Final Fantasy - A real Final Fantasy, as you said Aaron, would have been focused more on the characters side of things, empathy has always been used excellently in Square's games, making you love the characters, but in this movie, the only characters I cared for in the least was the General, who, despite being "bad", actually had some form of phsyical emotion, plus his look was just too cool.

2. Chocobos were not there. I was devastated. End of story.

3. Some of the lines sounded as though they had been ripped straight from a Harlequin Mills & Boon story, cheap and nasty. The love interest between Aki and What's-his-face was just horrible, from the moment he was introduced you could see the interest as though someone had ripped through the script with a serated steak knife.

4. The graphics, the one thing I found that redeemed the movie. They were astonishing, breathtaking, LUVERLY!! Too bad some of the characters just didn't move in time completely when they talked. I noticed some of the characters had the kinds of voices that needed a bit more pouting to look believable. Apart from that, the graphics were superb, not a scratch on them.

5. I've run out of time.

Just one summation needs to be said from my corner of the ring:

"Excellent movie, Terrible Final Fantasy."

:)
