The only problem I can see with a chaff grenade is that it could be dangeous to shoot thousands of small peices of metal into the air. Since the grenade explodes, those peices might fly out and cut the person who threw it. Plus there is the problem of them being inhailed. I can imagine Snake having a very serious cough after MGS was over. :-)

I could see metal gear being developed in the next few years. The biggest problem with metal gear would have to be that it walks rather than using wheels or tracks. To my knowledge no one has made a machine that can walk on two legs very sucessfully. Metal gear would just flop over onto it's side :-) I can already see a country having the ability to make everything else though. I find it hard to imagine a rail gun being able to shoot a warhead all the way across the planet. I guess if the warhead makes it to the very top of the atmosphere and uses a tank of compressed air to make small course corrections it could reach it's target.

Although it is next to impossible to be able to bend light around objects in the next 100 years there is another way. If the marchine, or person, was fitted it special plating that changes colour and texture to suit the background behind it, then that would be the next best thing. That technology is currently being developed for fighter planes.
