In reply to: ETaylor 's message, "PLEASE READ Lisa Pawlus' post below: As the mother of a contestant it is difficult to read many of the posts on this board. But yes I read it because there is also some good information on here occasionally! As a long time room mother,4-H and collegiate sports Mom, I can tell you that it is VERY difficult to get volunteers. It is often the same people. Bob may be one of the most honest auditors you could hever find he would not in any way influence the outcome of a pageant he was auditing. He is always there to help these girls, supporting them with his time, food, security, and monetarily (we all know how lucky he is with basket raffles!) PLEASE Click in this rant continues" on 08:50:57 07/30/13 Tue

A quick simple way to get more contestants, title holders, and volunteers is to get with the times people. Our Facebook page is a barren waste land. There was a whopping ZERO COUNT 'EM ZERO posts between Miss America in January and the start of this past year’s Miss NJ. How many of you reading these posts decide not to post on Facebook for 6 months? When our current Miss NJ doesn’t make a blog post each month people ask what’s up, yet the Miss NJ FB page takes off for 6 months. Come on people!

Second, update our website. It's dated, hard to navigate, and full of errors. There are titles listed under the “Local Pageant Information” link that haven’t been held in years. And if you really look into it, there are other errors everywhere. To give a specific example, if you click “contestants” then “blog” you’ll be linked to a blog post from Kathryn from 2 years ago. WHAT!?! I ask any of you to find another state’s or territory’s official website that is worse than ours.

You want new people to compete and volunteer, but all you have to advertise is word of mouth and some dated, barren websites. That’s why we’re stuck using family members, friends, co-workers and acquaintances for all our volunteers. The information simply isn’t out there and the places where you could go to find information are almost always incorrect in some way. That’s half the reason this voy board exists. I gather more and more accurate information from this voy board on a daily basis than I do from any of the official sites and that’s embarrassing.

Websites are cheap. Pay a little money to have someone update and maintain ours if you can’t find a volunteer. As for the Facebook page, we all know how to use it, I’m sure we can find someone else who has more time to update it. I’m not asking for the world with the Facebook page, I just want to know when Alyssa’s sendoff is so I don’t miss it, when there’s a fundraiser somewhere for the program, or when, where, and what time the next local is taking place so I can go support our girls. Is that too much to ask?

[> [> [> Subject: The contestants volunteer their time as well. They put in months or years of work not just a couple of hours here and there. They deserve to have their accomplishments posted on Facebook and a legitimate website. These are two simple fixes that shouldn't take longer than a couple of hours. It would give the program a much needed face lift and a forum to advertise for themselves, their contestants, and the MA program as a whole.
