Subject: Just a question..... NJOT has done extremely well in the past years at MAOT..... Is the OT prep team different from the Miss prep team. I know that the two competitions are different, but how can there be such a distinct difference between the two?

I have been wondering the same thing. What else could it be? You would think someone involved would have noticed and made some changes. Hopefully Brenna and Alyssa's experiences as NJOT will help them not only become Miss NJ one day but also help them do well at Miss America.

IT doesn't matter. The Miss has not had a top 10 in 13 years. There is no ryhme or reason. No team, no assignements of duties to help the Miss. Nice people but...just done in an unorganized fashion. Miss NJ has not had a Miss America in over 60 years. (except by default..Vanessa hand off to Suzette).

There is clearly big differences in getting teens ready. And you are right someone should take notice.

Anyone think it could be that Joan Cooper is a terrific director and knows how to get the teens ready for nationals.

[> [> [> Subject: Well, in the four years that Joan Cooper was a local director she had two top 5 placements and a winner. since becoming the teen director 5 of her seven girls have made the cut at nationals. I think her track record speaks for its self. She should be promoted to State Miss Executive Director.

Going to Florida doesn't mean anything, the girls are ready to go at that point and know what they need to do to compete.Ashame some people just don't get it but they think they do. Beth

>Miss America. FYI, Joan believes in a village and will be the first one to tell you that, please don't forget that Natalie and Andie both did great as well. Natalie top 10 and Andie top 15. When will people give people the credit they deserve. She does a great job with the teens and knows what she is doing. Be thankful people, New Jersey is back on the map. Thanks, Joan

Just sick of people who want to take credit for things they had nothing to do with anything. The teen and miss are different. And for the last time, different prep teams, someone wake up!!!!!!!!!!
[> Subject: Might want to ask NY what they are doing since they've had two in row. And the past several years, I hate to say it, have been unspectacular. Except for Victoria Paige and Jill Horner and Jennifer Farrell, they were the most successful as they made the final/semi-finals at Miss America and to a slightly lesser extent Kathy Nejat and Alicia Luciano. I don't have the answer, you cannot blame Silvia anymore. Where is the leadership? And the marketing? And guidance? Unless NJ adapts a "big state" mentality, then I doubt we will have someone placing very high...

[> [> Subject: Asking NY won't be helpful, and they don't have a "big state mentality". It was rumored that they were in dire straights with money after Mallory's homecoming, and that this year was to be their rebuilding year for budget. They did not expect another Miss A, Nina is the one who gets full credit. Well, she and her prep team. Her family has the resources to provide her with coaches and what's necessary to win. Also factor in that she was 1st runner up at MAOT a few years ago. She had what it takes, period.

Congrats to her.

[> Subject: To be successful at the national level the state contestant needs to be completely focused on winning. Countless hours of practicing talent, walking, mock interviews and working out. Practice, practice, practice almost daily.
