The Flat is a reasonably large 'flat' grassy area between the cliffs and the Foothills. Weyrlings come here to train... depending on their age. (Check at the YOU board)
Hatchlings can't do much of anything but instead, often come and watch.
Dragonets begin learning how to fly!
Weyrlings can start to learn to go between.
And finally, full grown Dragons can learn absolutely everything!
So... Listen well to your Weyrling Master!

A small green winks into existance, landing on Samma's head and chirruping, eyes whirling anxiously. "Hmm? Aren't you my cousin's flit?" the girl asks, snatching the flit off her head and peering at it. What is that? "A flit." Receiving a few obvious images from Ameroni, Samma's eyes widen. "Shards!" she yelps, before releasing the green to return. What? Concentrating, the ex-Harper shows her lifemate what scared the shells out of her, and the dark blue does a quick, nervous sidestep. "N'tek! Sir!" Gesturing, she pitches her voice loud enough to be heard by all. "Sir! There's a dragonrider turned renegade! His name is, Z'yith or something of the like. Word has been sent to Igen Weyr; he's at HerderHall with my cousin right now. Probably trapped by a pack of mutts, if I know Jent," she adds in a lower, somewhat amused tone. But the prospect of a, well, renegade dragonrider chills her bones as she imagines what could happen. This is NOT GOOD! Wrath suddenly exclaims, side-hopping rapidly and whipping his tail back and forth. We must do something! "Cool it, buddy. I'd gladly kick the creep to the Red Star, but I'm not dumb enough to pit dragon against dragon. Even as tough as you are." The dark girl pauses, staring into space thoughtfully, then speaks mentally. -Ole N'tek here better either do something, or teach me... us... how to go between. Right now.- Fidgeting still, the blue nearly dislodges his rider, who quickly tightens her straps and scowls at the ground, aching to take some action.

*N'tek grins broadly and shouts out to all the weyrlings* "Sorry about that everyone! I've been so busy lately, nearly forgot about training!" *He smiles* "Well, since I'm late, I'm just going to assume you've all arrived before me.... or are we missing anyone?" We dont have time. "Alright then change of plans, we'll start without any who aren't here... I can catch them up later... First things first, tack and gear. Over there underneath that ledge you'll find many sets of wherhide jackets and riding straps. Please get a set for yourself then come back over here." *he waits a moment while the weyrlings do so then continues* "Alright, first off, your wherhide jacket. This is more of a safety issue then essential tack. Your jacket helps keep you warm in between and helps with the windchill. Second, it keeps thread off of you a little longer because it's so thick. Third, it's a trademark of dragonriders and looks great so why not wear it?" *at this he grins* So anyway, just wear it." *He pauses* "Okay... onto tack, the only tack you really need are these." *he holds the riding straps up* "I want you to secure them around your dragon like so, and check with him or her to make sure they aren't too tight or loose. If they're loose, your dragon will feel as though they are rubbing uncomrfotably, if they are tight, your dragon will feel like they are squishing him or her. Anyway, once they feel right to you, and your dragon... hold tight and we wil move on, but for now, I want you all to try just that, put on your wherhidejacket, then get your riding straps set up."

Don't wear yourself out, or you won't be able to fly! his rider jokingly warns.

Don't be silly. I can run around and then catch a gold if I felt like it!! he exclaims poudly. T'rep laughs as the little brown continues to romp. The young man was proud of his dragon, like any rider would be, and was very happy that what had been a sickly grayish hatchling was blossoming into a healthy young dragon.

Her dragon was capable of carrying her. She strapped on the rider garb and clambered onto the saphirre dragon. "Ok, lift a few feet off the ground, that's it." Qurath does as she instructs, his powerful wings lifting them about four feet above ground. The adreniline rushes through her veigns, and he lands again with a thud. She longed to soar high, but didn't want to risk accidentally going between.

With her blue leaping on ahead of her, she comes racing onto the Flat, bronze clinging for dear life onto her hair. Not able to take another step the girl is about to collapse when the dragon realizes her condition. With concern in his eyes, he goes to her side, watching as she falls to the ground in a panting heap.

You're slow. He notes in a matter-of-fact way.

She takes a deep breath. "I'm out of shape, that's all." Katinka grins at Shuth. "You beat me by far, and you're only a couple of days old!"

He gives her a disdainful twitch of his head. I am a dragon.

"I know that!" She hugs him with a fond laugh, and he receives her hug with a show of tolerance.

Feeling a bit left out, Alonso gives a loud trill. Katinka holds out a hand for the flit to climb onto. Dragon and girl look at the flit. The flit looks back. Then she smiles and scratches the bowridge of the bronze.

"Poor Alonso." Feeling a bit better now, she crosses her legs, flit on one knee, dragon head on the other. "Now what? Training probly(no, that is NOT a mistake. *Grins*) won't start for a while, so we're left with lots of free time."

Sleep? Shuth gives an undignified yawn, and Alonso responds with one of his own.

She grins at them. "Sleep sounds fine, you both sleep, I'll watch." Though two agree, and as she watches, their eyes slowly close one after the other, and both are soon asleep.

Leaning back against a conveniently placed rock, she shuts her own eyes, a hand resting on the blue's head as she falls into a light drowse.

He's waking up, the blue notes.

She looks startled. "He is?" Her gaze snapped down to the bronze flit. "You're right." Two bright eyes gaze up at her; a chirp of greeting and she smiles happily.

Won't he be hungry?

"He doesn't appear hungry..." she lifted Alonso up to gaze at him. At this motion he starts to creel - hungerly.

Told you. The blue glares at the flit, and Katinka leads them to the Great Hall.

Qurath seemed to be bursting from the seams, he was 'shedding' constantly. She scratched behind one wing absent mindedly to the dragons pleasure. He was no longer gray-blue, but turning a sapphire color. She was happy he was getting stronger after being in the egg so long.
