Lian nodded as she listened to the Weyrlingmaster's instructions, then made her way up Veliruth's large form until she was seated on the gold's neck. She quickly got herself secured in the straps, then, taking a deep breath to ready herself, she gave 'Ruth the instruction to test the straps.

Though the gold was slightly puzzled, she jerked first to one side, then the other.

~~All right, then. Let's fly!~~

With an almost imperceptible nod of agreement, the gold flung her wings to either side of her body, then, crouching down in a readying stance, she pushed off with sturdy hind legs, at the same time sweeping the air with filmy wings. With very little effort, she was airborne. Trilling her delight in her newfound skill, Veliruth almost went into a twirl, but just in time Lian reminded her this first flight was to be straight, simply up and down. With all the pouting of a toddler denied a toy, the gold glided back down to the earth, landing on all fours, with roughness she could have avoided.

Shaking her head at her dragon's temperament, Lian stayed atop 'Ruth's neck and waited to see what the next stage in their learning would be.

A'dor was astride his dragon even before N'tek had finished his instructions. He was soon strapped in, and he told Kebeth,

~~Jerk to the left, then to the right, to see if the straps are secure... we don't want me falling off later, do we?~~

With that, the bronze jerked forcefully both ways, and A'dor was glad he was held in by straps, because otherwise he surely would have fallen.

~~You didn't have to jerk that hard.~~
{{Well, at least we know they'll hold.}}

Kebeth took his own initiative, getting a bit of a running start before spreading his pinions and leaping from the ground. The bronze beat the air with his wings, but this first time he had got the wrong rhythm and came crashing down to earth again. He retried, and this time got the hang of the rhythm of beating wings. The pair were soon aloft, flying by their own power. A'dor whooped his joy, and Kebeth joined him with a trumpet. They were sorry when they reached the red mark on the cliff.

Kebeth glided down, correcting his angle so that they landed quite gently. The bronze crowed softly, a call of pride to himself more than to anyone else but his rider. The two then awaited further instructions.
