You are correct. Names are reflective of identity. The last time I looked on a map, British Columbia was shown as being a province of Canada, not a colony of the U.K. Since British Columbia is no longer British, I would dare say it is time for a change of name. Think about it, when British Guiana become an independent country back in the 1960's would it made sense to have kept the name British Guiana?, of course not, so it changed it's name. It is now Guyana, and has been so for a long time. It is B.C.'s time to catch up. I propose to rename B.C., Omineca after a range of mountains in the north of the province.

I dont think these symbols that have been held for generations are as dear as you would like to think. The North American Vexillogical Association (NAVA) voted Manitobas provincial flag, the ugliest flag on this continent. The Winnipeg Free Press started a competiton for proposals for a new provincial flag in a big hurry after they got that news. Ontario is (at least informally) now discussing a new provincial flag as well. Somehow, I dont think the old Red Ensign is held in much esteem by most Canadians anymore.

You can't really expect

Wrong again, it is already underway, like it or not. As for my not living in Canada anymore, it is more circumstance than choice for me.

As a young Canadian, I am proud of our heritage
>and that does not mean that we are still colonial.

So am I, that is why I started this project.
Many Thanks,
