Hi Everyone
The CT Dog Federation needs your help.
The Conn. Dog Federation needs help to fight a poorly written bill
called the "chained dog bill" by the news media here in Conn. How to
Contact Governor Rowland
Telephone:
(860) 566-4840
We are trying to get this bill vetoed because it is very poorly written
and will be a "foot-in-the-door" method for the animal rights activist
in this
area. Marc Cohen (President of CDF) and our Lobbyist Dave Evans are
asking for
more phone calls to Governor Rowlands' office today. Because time is
short
and we want Governor Rowland to pay attention to our plea's we have
chosen
to have everyone that calls address just one of the worst parts of SB78
and ask that he veto the bill because of section 3. The wording, in
section 3, that we are concerned about is "Any person who keeps a dog
chained or tethered or keeps a dog confined in a pen, cage,
container or other indoor or outdoor housing facility for more than
fifteen continuous hours...".
Point out that many dog fanciers in the state have dogs that are in
excellent health and well-being, are provided with the proper food,
drink and shelter and are well socialized; yet live in home kennel
situations. Avoid any mention of dog breeding, dog breeders or anything
that might be construed as being a professional or commercial kennel.
You can stress the family aspect of your dogs. Also, stress the
cleanliness of your kennels.
Below are a couple of emails from Marc Cohen (president of CDF) to
members
of the CDF that I am cross posting with permission. To Give you a better
picture of what is occurring

Message from M Cohen to CDF 5/1/02::::::: I just talked to the
Governor's aide and gave her a quick rundown on what we are objecting
to. She took notes and said that the rest of the people that
call should only state that they are "calling to urge the Governor to
veto SB78 because of Section 3". She will relay the numbers to Governor
Rowland, so let's now start on that. Remember, the number to call is
(860) 566-4840. You don't need to give your name of any other
information. Merely state exactly what I just wrote.

Please pass this on and we need to get as many calls in today as
possible. Keep circulating this information, dog people, non-dog people,
whomever, the
more the better. The Connecticut Conference on Municipalities is also
placing calls, most of the Town's officials are against this because it
is unenforceable, but we don't want the Animal Rightists to get their
foot in the door.

Thank You in advance to all of you that will help with this. The members
of this list are truly awesome & we are counting on your help. Joan M
