Dear Steve:

Thank you for your response. But I was asking a specific question in response to the statement made as follow:

Quote:

"Lastly if you are not giving to this ministry and are not making efforts to support it while still draining its resources by being under its covering this ministry owes you nothing you are dead weight."

My question remains how exactly are members draining this ministry's resources by being under its covering (a covering which essentially is providing ordination/charters to independent ministers to enable them in their own independent ministries)?

I mean UCMI ordains/charters independent ministers for their own independent ministries. I was not aware that said members were requiring or receiving tangible services from UCMI to equip their ministries. Yes. Issuing a letter of ordination or charter is a tangible good. But this is basically all that is required of most members (I suspect) and when an offering is freely given in recognition of that I do think that is appropriate. But if one cannot contribute on a regular basis for good reason i don't feel he/she is "dead weight"...especially so considering what specific limited service they are receiving (letter of ordination/charter, I mean). And I do agree with the brother's statement about Christ and dead weight.

I understand about the reference to expenses. But I thought UCMI had an administrative office, not a church building. Is UCMI providing church-based services like weekly worship, youth groups, pastoral care (home/hospital visits, counseling, etc.)? I'm asking because when one peruses the website none of that comes across. What comes across is that UCMI ordains and charters and has an insttitute for courses to purchase, also, some materials are avaialble for purchase. And the mission statement is pretty much about ordination and charters. I only mention this to show how, if other things are taking place, one might not be aware of it from the information presented at the website.

Again, I appreciate the ordination and charter and I have been a member for several years (giving as per the recent requirement). But some good valid concerns were tabled about things like better communication and so forth and it seems like the only answer received was focused on giving. (And I hope no one will be cut lose as "dead weight" when they cannot give for good cause.)

Just posting in an attempt to understand it all, not out of acrimony or disrespect. I trust members can discuss such matters openly here.

Thanks for your consideration.

Peace...
