Brothers and Sisters,

I am very new to UCM. As a matter of fact, though I have been working towards my Diploma in Pastoral Ministry for several months now, and have very recently applied for licencure, this is my first time to visit this particular forum.

In reading your posting and the numerous responses, I am
reminded of something that occurred in one of our open-forum Bible classes at our church recently. We had a visitor that day and she made a comment about one of our more vocal members who is very prone to theological
arrogance and warns everyone who doesn't understand all that he understands that they are deceived. She said "what that brother had to say may have been absolutely true, but the attitude in which he said it turned me off so that I tuned him out after the first few sentences."

My impression is that Brother McManus' comments were not
in any way a result of theological arrogance, or an intent to cause harm, but were rather the result of inspired zeal and a simple "need to vent". It is well that this forum exists for such venting and open discussions among like-minded brethren.

The one scripture that comes immediately to mind is Ephesians 4:11-15. "And he gave some, apostles; and some, prophets; and some, evangelists; and some, pastors and teachers; For the perfecting of the saints, for the work of the ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ:
Till we all come in the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of the Son of God, unto a perfect man, unto the measure of the stature of the fulness of Christ:
That we henceforth be no more children, tossed to and fro, and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the sleight of men, and cunning craftiness, whereby they lie in wait to deceive; But speaking the truth in love, may grow up into him in all things, which is the head, even Christ:

I believe that the uncompromised truth of God's Word can and should always be spoken without hesitation, but that it should always be communicated in a spirit of Love and out-going concern so as to continually confirm the Love of God in his people.

Humbly, your Brother in Christ,
Brad Campbell
