Subject: ::I Haven't Forgotten You::

Few had returned to the pack, and even fewer that the shadowed she-wolf remembered from her last inhabitance in these lands. As a result, the shadow kept to herself, ever watchful of new arrivals, and coming to stand at her alpha's flank when those arrived. A heaviness weighed on her heart, a sense of dread resulting in her slow, heavy paw placements. She was feeling more and more as she had when she'd first arrived within these lands, wild and uncontrollable... and on a whole, disliked by the pack. Now it was not so much a sense of dislike she was garnering from the others... but a sense of... withdraw. She itched to feel like a unit again, but something instinctively told her that was a long way off.

Now the raven figure moved through the trees that kept her hidden from unknowing eyes. Her thoughts drifted past the years, past the raising of her own pups, the raising of a panther cub, and the friendship and loyalty Mist had granted her. She dearly missed her beloved friend. A panther who had left her son upon her death, for Black Ice to raise. he too had fled, seeking a better life. She smirked slightly at remembering his return when she'd needed the quiet, steady support when her blood pups had been whelped. The thought brought her mind around to the males of the pack... past and present. Greyn had been a hesitant friend, and steadfast ally in the past, in days before Cascade Mountains had withered and died. But his heart had always belonged to Mist. Her thoughts then jumped to Ispan, and then Band, Firey Ash, Wild Thunder, Odin, Dagwood. So many males, so much potential,... and despite her having had a littler of pups.. Ice was still alone, years later, with not even said pups to comfort her.

Paws slowed, and then stilled completely. Darkness surrounded her, the pines tall enough, dense enough to prohibit any light from venturing so far as to reach the soft, needle strewn floor far below. She had let her nose guide her, ignoring her eye site as it was useless in this darkness anyway. A low whine started forth, slowly building, escalating until a low mournful howl echoed through the trees around her, bringing her own voice back again and again to fill her auds. She didn't know if it reached out into the pack lands, she didn't much care. She doubted any but Mist would be able to find her in this density. Her howl died, and still it bounced around the trees for a few minutes after she'd fallen silent. She settled down in the soft pine needles, curling herself into a ball and tucking her chilled nose beneath her warm tail. If nothing else, she'd have a few hours to seek some solace in the darkness and mourn her losses.
