Subject: Standing the test of time

The rugged looking wolf trudges wearily past tree after tree. Every step taking him into new unfamiliar land. He sighs and gazes around with his one glittering eye, his face marred by dozens of scars large and small. His heart pumps steadily, keeping time with his steps. As he reaches a small hill his nose twitches. The scent of wolves is distant but still clings to the air around him. Turning his massive head he sniffs a nearby bush, searching for more information about these strangers. As he pushes his nose against the leaves and breathes in deeply a small flash of recognition streaks across his brain. Something distant and from long ago but still oddly familiar. He racks his brain, trying to make sense of his sudden deja vu. Squinting with concetration he struggles to see across the vast landscape. Nothing. Something about this place makes his heart thump alittle faster and his breath continues to come in short puffs. The skin along his neck pricks as his hackles involuntarily rise. Something tells him he shouldn't just pass by this land. He sits down on the hard earth only to stand back up a few seconds later. He begins to pace the invisible border of the territory as his mind tries to sift through memories of a different time. He'd been here before. Long, long ago he'd once called this place home. "Home", a word he wasn't usually able to describe a place. He dared not hope that those who used to reside here still did. And even more,if they did...would they remember him??
