Subject: We have choices
In reply to: WOG 's message, "Jewish perspective" on 08:48:02 08/16/02 Fri

That is true. What makes the choice we make less desirable than other choices? This depends on our perspective, and the basis of our beliefs. The Torah does give either interpretation credibility, it speaks of "evil" and it speaks of only one God.

"Evil" is also a choice we make. We choose to make things evil. This is somethings used for positive when can influence behavior by its example. Other times we must realize that when we see "evil" it is a choice that has already been made, therefore a non-issue.

An example would be abortion. Before the procedure, it would be unwise to brand a person evil, and afterwards it is too late to do anything but cause more pain by labeling the person. I am not supporting abortion in this example.

What good can come from calling our brothers and sisters evil? When they have made what we would call mistakes, we should still help them and show them our love. We do not need to call them evil.

So we can see a possibility that evil is not from God at all.

The reality of our existence is that we make choices that affect our life. If we do not follow laws we go to jail, or in the case of Jews, we lose the right to live in our own land. Are we evil? I believe the answer can be found in the amoun of faith God has in us (both Jew and non-Jew).
