The Word is the part of God that we can express and perceive of, IMV. John could have been a lot more specific. He could/should have said "Jesus is the Word. The Word is God. The Word was with God in the Beginning. Jeuss is God. Jesus was with God in the Beginning." He doesn't say that though, he speaks obscurely if one accepts your interpretation. I suggest that the Logos is to God, as the Tao is to the true Tao:

"The Tao that can be expressed is not the true Tao.
The name that can be given it is not its true name.
Without name it is the principle of the universe;
and with name, it is the mother of all the things.
From not-being we understand its essence;
and from being, we only see its appearance.
Both things, being and not-being, have the same origin, although different name.
Its identity is the mystery.
And in this mystery is the door of all wonders."
