Hi -

Don't know anywhere in your neck of the woods but you'll probably be able to sort it out yourself.

You say the problem has started, so I assume it was previously running well ?

If so, I'd suggest doing a routine service to rule out things like valve clearances or ignition timng being out. Go through all the engine settings including valve clearances and spark plug gaps, and make sure all is correct. If you have a 009 distributor, you'll need to time it at 30Deg BTDC at 3000 rpm, using a strobe light.

If it's still popping , first check you have no air leaks anywhere on the inlet manifold. Use a piece of flexy tube held to your ear to listen around all the joints on the inlet manifold, for the sound of air being sucked in at tickover. Check around the carb base, the end casting boots and where the end castings bolt to the heads.

Popping back through the carb is normally caused by -
Too weak a mixture
Incorrect ignition timing
Valve clearances incorect
Or a combination of the above.

If the fault still persists, remove the carb, clean it out and blow through all the jets & passageways with compressed air.

Also check for any leaks in the exhaust system. Sooty marks are a tell tale sign.
