Hi everyone!!

I have just purchased a 1974 type 2 VW camper from a salvage yard in Blackpool and have managed to get it towed to Manchester (where I live) I was wondering if anyone knows of any decent garages in or near Manchester who are good with VW's? It needs some welding underneath (nothing major) but its the only thing I can't do!! I think I'm also going to be in need of a few parts for the body (wheel arches and possibly a new front panel)..

Any ideas??

hiya,
my hubby has t25 which he has recently lowered by 65ml. He's used all the right shocks and springs and it looks great. But it's started making a 'clunking'noise when you turn the steering wheel. Mostly it does it when turning the wheel to the left but it has done it at other times. To me the sound is coming from around the middle of the van, towards the front end, but he says it comes from the left side. Could it be a coincidence that this only started since he lowered it and maybe its something else? Or is it something to do with the suspension?
Any ideas anyone?

Hi,

I was wondering if someone could help me find somewhere or someone that would be willing to rent out a classic beetle for a wedding. I know of some places but unfortunately they are really far away and only offer chauffeur driven options. I used to own a karmann convertible but had to sell it due to the need of a more econimical and sturdier car for work. I'm now getting married and it is my fiance's dream to drive away in a classic beetle. The wedding is in July and we are based in Clitheroe, Lancs. If anyone knows of anyway we could achieve this I'd really appreciate an email. Price is inconsequential (to a certain extent!!)

My wife's father bought a 2 door Mars Red 1100cc Golf (with double headlights, wide steel wheels and go-faster stripe) new in 1982. Three years later it was handed down to my wife. She ran it until approx 7 years ago. Since that time it has lived in her dad's garage and 'come out' on only a couple of occasions when we needed a 'replacement car'.

It's had drivers side front wing replaced and needs passenger side doing. It's got s/s exhaust and Webber carb. Apart from this everything is original. Inside it's like new. Apart from wing, body is excellent (it was wax-oyled several times) It's done about 82k miles. Was serviced by same mechanic from 1983 to 2000 (when we put it back on road for a couple of months). Serviced and MOT'ed again in late 2001 and put on road for a few weeks.

We'd planned to keep it and use it as a 'second car' when one of us retired. But the regular running of it is getting a bit too much and now we are thinking about passing it on to someone whe will love and cherish it as we have.

Is there anyone out there interested in buying it?

We have been thinking about this for a couple of years but could not bring ourselves to part with it. But I have just come across your web site and note you are a 'local' club (we are near Blackburn) and am contacting you on the spur of the moment - with my wife's approval.

I would prefer not going to a VW dealer due to I would think that they would just over charge me on things. I have bought magazines and done my research but I have come up empty handed in my area.
So if any one could point me in the right direction I would be very greatful. I love my bug and want her to run forever...so far so good!

Hi..............

Anyone interested in buying a running, complete, recently rebuilt and dressed 1600 VW please contact me. I had to cancel my order with Bull Trikes and am now left with a terrific engine in the garage with no home. I bought the engine from a specialist VW dealer in Edinburgh and it was factory rebuilt about 20K miles ago. I heard it running and I can say it is very healthy. Every piece of the engine that could be renewed was. Cleaned, steamed, some gaskets replaced (complete set available), new carb., new clutch, ALL tinware new, complete EMPI chrome dress up kit, Bosch Blue Coil, EMPI ignition cap/wires, new Bosch plugs, fan belt renewed, Alloy cyl. head covers, new cyl. head gaskets, chrome pulley protection cage, Chrome air filter, new factory oil pan cover/gasket..and more parts, all new. This engine is ready to go...it just needs an exhaust system and a tune up. I am very sorry to have to quite the project...anyone wanting to buy the engine is welcome to it. 600.00 ONO will buy it. come on guys...the engine needs to run, it needs a trike!! i found this info on a website www.dubfest.net sounds good what you all think?
Monday 8th November

Dear reader,

On Saturday the 6th November a group of VW fanatics who want a better northern show met together to discuss the venues on offer.

It soon emerged that there were two schools of thought on what should be done about the vacuum left up north by the demise of GTI Spectacular (which has been allowed to degenerate into a wheel spinning exercise for jap crap, french tin and other assorted scrabble wagons).

So Dubfest has been responsible for the generation of two ideas of the perfect northern show. Paul Scott of Demon VW Will now be organising a northern show separate to DUB:FEST. We'd like to thank him for giving the rest of us the enthusiasm to stop this site from floundering. We wish him and Shane the best... and we look forward to what is certainly going to be a kick-arse show, if I know Paul. keep up with the developments at http://www.demonvw.co.uk/

So what does this mean for DUB:FEST? It means we're faced with organising a show. A huge event, the likes of which hasn't been seen for a while. We're convinced we can pull it off and at a venue they call Elvington. Thats right, the venue for Ten of the Best, for countless 1/4 mile runs, is going to be hosting a show near you sometime soon.

Information (like the date!) may be sparse for the next few weeks, please bear with us whilst we work out what is going on. we're barely starting what is going to be a huge undertaking. With your help in these forums, we're convinced we can organise a hell of a day out.

Catch you soon,

The DUB:FEST Committee

Aircooled spares – Free to a good home – I urgently need the space and don’t want to take them to the dump – they’re too good to tip.

Beetle driver’s seat, black, two runner type, fairly good condition,
Set of Four wide five 14 inch steel wheels, will suit late splitty or early Bay.
Four 12 Volt dynamos C/W backing tin and fans (early type fans) All are believed to be working but are untested.
Beetle fuel tank (flat screen type with external filler cap) Good solid condition, minor surface rust.
Beetle engine lid – late four vent type – suit German looker.
200mm flywheel
Twin hotspot manifold centre section - needs unblocking.
Pair of 1600 inlet manifold end castings
Pair of 1300 single port heads with mild porting job.– need full rebuild & plug holes helicoiling. No cracks.
All the above free to good home.

Also 1 good as new chrome Zoom Tube – never fitted due to change of plans - £5.00

You must collect from Penwortham, Preston, or I can deliver to New Lancs club meetings by prior arrangement.

type 3 fasty 72 tax exempt
The car is fairly standard, although is has many new parts. new barrels, pistons, carpets, discs, calipers (type 4) pads, clutch, brake flexes, tyres X4 etc. It has been lowered and has empis, but thats about it. I have removed the bumpers because i think they look batter that way, but i still have them, they need painting or re-chroming really. The car has tax and test until August 05. I have owned the car for about 6 years and i really need space and her in doors is threatening to leave if i do not get rid of some "toys"
I love this car and will be sorry to see it go.
The car is in scunthorpe

I am looking for a good restoration garage in the north west area, Manchester, where my unluky beetle can be brought back to its former glory. The car was involved in a rear shunt beeing pushed forward into another car. This damage was repared to a reasonable standard, but in a towing accedent (Bus with no Mirrors) The front end has been lightly damaged again! Appart from cosmetics the car is sound. The car is in storage in Lincolnshire but I now work and live around Manchester.
I am looking at having all bodywork done and a full re-spray and upgrading both transmition, engin and breaks. Any help or advise would be greatfully recived.

Hello all.

Im just about ready to paint my 74 Beetle, the original idea was to go back to its build colour which the VW museum certificate said was brilliant orange (L20B), upon stripping it to pieces there is not a spot of orange in sight, lots of yellow though. Not too keen on yellow, orange is still in with a shout. Can anyone offer advice on a good sound colour to go for? One that is user friendly in the cleaning department and wont show any rust spots too easily in years to come. Ideas/assistance appreciated, it's going to get done about 16th Aug.

Many thanks

I have a 1972 1300 Beetle, a stalled restoration project, along with a lot of parts which I need to get rid of as the garage I was storing them in will shortly no longer be available. The Beetle is pretty much dismantled and there are a lot of parts, some bought new, others recovered from scrapped vehicles. Some of this has deteriorated in storage, but is salvagable.

I would much rather as many of these parts went to Beetle enthusiasts than being scrapped which is my only other option. If you can come as far as Macclesfield let me know.

An entire ’66 and more is in bits and, after far too long trying to do ‘A little bit of welding’ (Ha-Ha-ha-ha-ha... Everything from Fuel sender, Trimcliprubbers(new), combination handbrake lever, four+ wings, ’67 doors, Shell with bonnet boot and doors (Proffessionally blasted/primed so NO RUST!), Floorpan, gearbox, Complete 1600 std engine, 2 ½" drop spindles for drums TO other stuff like BRAND NEW: Kerscher front vented disc kit complete, oiled, still in box, Kerscher braided hoses, Dual circuit mstr cyl., 2 ½” Drop spindles for discs. ALL EITHER ON OR GOING ONTO EbAY SOON.

Hello, I have a 1987 T25 camper (home conversion) that I would like to add a pop top roof to. Does anybody know of anywhere in the (preferably) north west that carries out such work? Thanks, Mark

Just bought 1973 1600 super bug and need off side 1/2 floor pan. Is there any difference between a '72 and '73 pan, as can get my hands on a '72 but not a '73. Any advice would be very welcome as i'm a new comer to the vw world.

We have our Sons unwanted convertable Voltswagon Beetle and we are not sure whether to keep it and get it restored, or sell it as a project to someone who knows what they are doing.
It is a 1303 super beetle, was registered in 1974 and is canary yellow (very eye catching!)It surely deserves more than being abandoned in a garage but do you feel it would be worth restoring as we have already been quoted £600 just to get the mechanics sorted?
Regards Alan

I am in need of some advice if anyone can help. I would like to restore my 74 beetle, I'm not after a Rolls-Royce finish but would like a good job doing.

We would like to have all the wings, doors and the rust sorting out and a nice re spray.

If you could please recommend anyone in the Liverpool area I would be really grateful.

Many thanks
