The best is the genuine Karmann factory conversions. Avoid the later "DIY" type ones, as they often have leaky hoods, and just don't look "right".

Be aware that these are "enthusiasts" cars, and you'll have to be prepared to get your hands mucky occasionally. There's plenty of help online and plenty of books out there, so I'd start doing a little research. Get a couple of issues of Volksworld or Ultra VW to give you a feel for things first.
