Get a friend to wiggle the clutch pedal, whilst you go under the back end with a torch (and goggles). It's easier if you remove the left rear wheel, follow the drive shaft from the wheel hub to the gearbox (the oily thing), on top of the gearbox, and to the rear from the driveshaft you should see a 4 inch lever pointing upwards, with the cable and a wingnut adjuster on the end. This lever should move when the pedal is moved in and out. if it doesn't, the cable has broken, or has come unhooked from the pedal. Sometimes the hook on the pedal can wear and break, but you will have to dismantle the pedal cluster to see that.
