Hello everyone. I have recently purchases a T3. It is up and running and I am intent on renovating it, mostly over the winter, when I have built the garage for it to live in. I have been researching parts etc on the web and through the VW magazines and it seems to me that T3 parts are not commonly listed. It also seems to becoming apparent to me that all the maechanicals are mainly Type 2 with some Type 1. Where do I find a list or reference as to which T2 parts match, so that can order the correct ones etc. I can work some of it out myself, but I am not sure exactly and also I don't wish to make a boob and purchase the wrong ones. Firstly I am looking at brake and suspension components, than progressing on. Any advice would be appreciated. I am also going to attend the next meet up near the A6/M55 location. hi all you old style vw beetle (proper ones) owners . I'm best man at a wedding and have been left in charge in organising transport for the bride and father from house to wedding. AS she is a huge admirer of the vw beetle (good taste) thought would be an eye opener. So if there is any beetle owner out there that would be able to collect them from the house in swinton manchester and deliver them to the wedding in bolton at approximately 12 noon on 15th august 2009. send me and email on tandelhill2001@yahoo.co.uk. Hi All

I have two wrecked german scooters to restore - a Durkopp Diana and a Heikel Tourist, probably two years work. I was wondering whether they would fit on the back of a double crewcab VW? Also I haven't considered how to get the scooters on board or covers. Any advice welcome - and obviously I am in no hurry. I just thought that keeping it all German seemed so korrekt.

I need a spring for my Type 25 bus. It's the rear off-side spring that has broken, but as it is a 40mm lowered unit, they only come in sets of 4. Has anybody a spare, rear lowered spring lying around?

our 1977 beetle start first time when cold but alas when stopped for a short time say calling at a shop will not start.
now if you leave it 30 minutes it starts first time.
I have even had it professionally tuned, the carb is only about 5 years old, i think it is flooding but only think dont know for certain. the engine is a standard 1200cc
with the standard carb.
any help would be much appreciated.

I've just spoken to the owner of this van and he would very much like it returned as he has put a lot of time and money into it, so please can everyone keep an eye out for it or it's parts - Thanks.

T25 in bright yellow with a white high top roof, stolen from Huncoat nr. Accrington on Mon 23rd Feb.

It's a 1982 X reg with a newly custom built interior and bed and recently restored bodywork in VGC.

Engine has a 009 distributor and fairly new Weber ICT's.

Please contact Bob Smith on 01254 234528 if you have any information (answerphone on the line if out) - or phone the police.

The registration number is PUF 211X

Hi, we've just bought a 1996 golf estate, the clutch is biting high and seems to be slipping slightly onder high loads, will it be self adjusting or can I tighten it? I know that the clutch was replaced within the last 2 years and the mileage between then and now is fairly low, so I'm guessing that the cable's moved or stretched - any ideas?

Hi,Have a leak on my 79 Bay 2 Litre Auto it is transmission fluid.I have had the van to my garage man who says its coming fromaround the torque converter and engine will have to come out to rectify.I dont disbelieve him but how bad does this leak have to be or will it just get worse.
Also can anyone reccomend a reputable vw man .... garage to look after my van for me. thanks Irene.

Subject: t25 rear hub nut removal

struggling to remove the rear hub castle nuts on my T25.
Having the correct 46mm socket 'T bar' and extension bar, they will not release from the threads.
I have then used a lump hammer and chisel to knock/shock the nuts loose.
I am also undoing in the normal anti-clockwise method,

Can anybody suggest better or got tips what to next

Can anyone tell me if I can change the Type 4 2000cc that is currently sitting in my 1972 Bay into a Type 1 'turn-key' complete engine from Remtec?

The Type 4 engine has seized and I really would like to change it entirly to the Type 1 1776cc that comes complete with carbs, exhaust etc.

Remtec said that all I would need to do is source some of the tinware that would need to be fitted? Is this advise correct?

Hi, Am just about to fork out for another restoration job on the 75 bay ive ownwed for the last 17yrs. This was my first car when i was 17 and had it ever since. Thanks for the response. I ended up using Eurocarparts and local vw dealer, however I,m in need of Tie-rod ends and TieRod bars, and definatly some bottom rad/engine hoses for this 28 year old motorhome restoration. Any ideas? - somebody said if I spoke German I might be able to get parts off the internet? (If I spoke German I'd already be on the beach on top of my towel - instead I'm planning a damp cold saturday on a groundsheet under the van in a breezy NWesterly!!) Zeich Heil!! Oh well nothing ventured - nothing gained...though the classic european surf safari seems a little further off today - maybe so0me of you guys might have a suggestion. Thanks for the tip re: distributor parts. I ended up using local VW main dealer and Eurocarparts, with various success, however I am now currently looking for tierods, and tie rod ends for the same LT28, 1980, petrol. 2ltr. Also bottom hoses (and possibly others) from engine to rad - the list goes on but these parts will get me back on the road - for the ultimate european surf van experience. gday!
ive just shipped my 72 bug over from ireland to liverpool. its a complete rust bucket and needs a full body off resto with new floor pan, channels, front and rear quarters and doors and door pillars(to start with). whos good over here for a solid body off? im going rat(ish) so it doesnt have to be concours stuff. ive been out of the loop for a few years and just dont know of any names over here. i googled thump thump and such - with no joy..

Hi i wonder if anyone out there can help me. I recently visted your club stand in VWNW and my boyf and I spotted a beautiful bay with the exact red paint job as we would like on our restoration project 'bertha the bay'. The camper we saw was a early bay with a little pretend boy resting on the front pretending to play hide and seek, it was a lovely shade of red and I was hoping there might be someone out there who will know what i'm talking about and be able to tell me the paint code, thank you for taking the time to read this and fingers cross!

I was wondering whether anybody on your forum had used SJS? I am looking at them for a rebuild on a rotten old T2. I am in the west country so its hard to pop up and suss them out. I like what they have to say on their site but soem first hand opinion would be great.

Hi All,
I have a '71 Beetle in a right mess apparently. It hasnt been used for 3 years and has been left out in all weathers. I've been told the floors dropping out and it will need probably loads doing to it. I'm under pressure to get rid of it as its at my parents house, but I cant!!! Can anyone point me in the right direction to get my lovely little bug looking beautiful and back on the road again? Please help!!

I was wondering if anyone could help me find a felt ring for my 73 1200's steering column.

I'll admit my ignorance from the off - a family friend is doing some repairs for me and says a new felt ring is needed to dampen movement in the steering wheel. I've tried a few online parts shops and a couple of local shops but the best response I've been able to get is to try and find a scrap vehicle to scavenge one from.

I'm sure this can't be the only way - please point me in the right direction...

engine on a t25 keeps cutting out sometimes on a long run sometimes on a short run you have to wait about 15minutes or so then it will start again any suggestions please

Stolen on or around 18th July, a Bay window camper, cream and white with BRM wheels. Reg no. THN 115L

Heyup, Ive got a spot on 1978 Daybus/Campervan that is in need of a new home. Once a dayily driver, now siting on my mum's drive feeling sorry for himself.
"Old blue" has had a recon vege engine fitted december 2001, and only clocked up 16000 miles on it.an ive been told the engine is a good one!(with a twin carb).
He hasnt been started in a few years, however with a little bit of help, he started 2'nd time last week, And I even managed to turn him around in the street, (at that point I wanted to keep him,however my 10month old daughter decideds what i do with my pay-check thesedays!)
His body work is ok in some places however its a bit ropey in others!!!
With a old booklet that describes the van as a Danbury conversion daybus, old blue doesn't have the standard camper layout, Oh no, Old blue has two, Yes, TWO rear doors. Ive not seen many like him.
Now to be honest its a lot of work but if someone knows what there doing and got a bit of time an cash, You will have yourself a stunning rare cool dub.
I have no idea what he's worth now therefore ive listed him on E-Bay, if you want to know any more just ask,
Im from Ellesmere port, and you could come an have a look at the old fella.

We have ongoing water leak from coolant system at the union to engine head. Various attempts at repairs suchas several new rubber seals, chamfereing metal on engine head to make better fit, heat selants etc grage i snoe saying that we should replace a/ engine head or b/ full engine as a/ good fit impossible due to chamfered metal or b/ pressure is too greta for weakened seal point and thi scould be sign that engine onn way out.
We are going to try an aluminium rediater fix (just pour into water system and heat, presure and air will seal leak)and see what happens. But is new engine (head or full otherwise really necessry. is there anything else we can do or can anyone recommend a vw garage in brighton. thanks

For those of you who attended the last meeting at The New Holly, you probably realised it wasn't the ideal venue for us, despite the huge plates of chips laid on !

So for the meet on July 17th, we're booked in at The Phantom Winger (just off the M55 junction 1, next to the Ibis hotel.)

We have the balcony to ourselves.

Hello there, VW'S all. We have a T25 Westfalia Joker, which has had a prang. The bottom front panel is crunched and we can't get a replacement. All the usual outlets Just Kampers Heritage and everyone else you can think of have no replacements any more. Even Manf.are not producing new ones. So Insurance talking of scrapping the van, which we don't want as everything else had jusat been done over the last 3 yrs. Can anyone out there help? A used one cut of another van can be used if you know of one, in good order, can you let us know please. thanks we really need your help , save a Westie don't let her die!!!!!!kind regards Wynne

I wonder if anyone can help me. As a proud new owner of a 1976 Type 2 Westfalia VW 2.0l automatic I have a problem with the headlights. On the drivers' side the headlight only works on manin beam and goes off completely on dip. I've tried 3 known good H4 bulbs and the problem is the same. Anyone any ideas what to look for please !

Hello,
My dad has a 1981 T25 2 litre aircooled camper.
It has sat in his drive for some time now. He originally bought it as a project...He drove it home OK..engine smoked (seems it is the pushrod tubes)The body is getting pretty rough. He bought a leisurdrive hi top to fit on it as well.
It is too much work for him now and he would like to move it off his Driveway as he could do with the space!
Its worth mentioning that the reg number is worth around £1200!!
Engine will run, Gearbox OK..Good hi top with it plus spare parts too!!
If you would like to have a look at it and make him an offer, please leave a reply.
It must be useful to someone on here.
I wouldn't mind it as spares for my 1900 wasserboxer leisuredrive but haven't got the room!!

Brakes are shot,front beam looks ok(has been welded in the past)

Hi Can anyone help me and my lovly Dolly a 1979 type 2 bay 2 litre automatic.Picture the scene joyfully riding along and suddenly lose all power and i mean all bus just fails not even ignition light is on,has happened three times now over short period.Each time fuse 16 amp as blown, when this is replaced it will start no problem but will blow again.I could understand more if it was one componant or accessorie that didnt work but to lose ALL POWER IS BAFFALING ME.any ideas please.
Also i need a thermostat ,roller ,bracket and cable this i believe helps cold starts .Have been searching for yonks does any body know were i can get one.

Hey everyone, this is my first of what i hope to be many posts

My name is Lee Atherton, i am 17, and my first is a brilliant 1968 1200 Beetle which i adore (better than a chavved up saxo anyway :-A)
only 43k miles from new ;-)

Anyway
i would like to join a bug club or VW Owners club around Blackpool where i live, this seems to be the closest and am happy of what i have seen so far

i would like some advice on some alterations and modifications i may be looking set out to do in the distant future

could any of you give me more information about the club
eg. where we meet, times, dates
And especially any events that may happen soon
will be greatly appreciated

We have answered thousands of oil questions in the last 4 years but the most frequently asked one is “What do the numbers mean?”

In short, if you see an expression such as 10W-40, the oil is a multigrade which simply means that the oil falls into 2 viscosity grades, in this case 10W and 40.

This is made possible by the inclusion of a polymer, a component which slows down the rate of thinning as the oil warms up and slows down the rate of thickening as the oil cools down.

Multigrades were first developed some 50 years ago to avoid the routine of using a thinner oil in winter and a thicker oil in summer.

For a 10w-40 to attain the specification target a 10W (W = Winter please note!) the oil must have a certain maximum viscosity at low temperature. The actual viscosity and the temperature vary with the viscosity grade but in all cases the lower the number, the thinner the oil. For example a 5W oil is thinner than a 10W oil at temperatures encountered in UK winter conditions.

This is important because a thinner oil will circulate faster on cold start, affording better engine protection and therefore lower long term wear!

For a 10w-40 to attain the other specification target a “40” oil must fall within certain limits at 100 degC. In this case the temperature target does not vary with the viscosity grade, if there is no "W" the measuring temperature is always 100degC.
Again the lower the number the thinner the oil, a “30” oil is thinner than a “40” oil at 100 degC, which is typical of maximum bulk oil temperatures in an operating engine.

Engine makers are, of course, very well aware of this and specify oils according to engine design features, oil pump capacities, manufacturing tolerances, ambient temperature conditions etc. It is important to follow these guidelines, they are important and are stipulated for good reasons.

Finally, if the engine has been modified or is used in stressed conditions, the operating conditions may well be outside the original design envelope. The stress on the oil caused by increased maximum revs, power output and temperature may require that an oil of a different type and viscosity grade would be required.

These examples show viscosities at different temperatures:

Hi Folks this is my first post on this site and hope that someone might be able to help? I have a 1994 T4 Transporter, 2.0inj petrol. I have just replaced my timing belt, and carried out ooil and filter change. The vehicle would not start (lol) I have no wiper/washers, no heater blower, and god knowes what else i dont have I have checked all the fuses in the fuse box and they are all OK checked with meter, I wonder if anyone can provide a photo with relay printout i.e ( what the relevant relays are for?) Hope for a speedy reply, as the weather is good (for now) and the camper is off the road.

I have a 1993 transporter van 2000 petrol and just recently
I can hear a motor like noise continuously running coming from the engine bay even when the ignition is turned off. The noise sounds like the cooling fan but I have checked and it is not.The noise is even apparent when the van has been left for hours even over night when I return to it.I am not sure if the noise has something to do whith the cooling system.Can anyone help?

Hi
Been having problems starting in wet weather and driving thru puddles can cause it to cut out. Have had it in the shop and have changed the usual parts dizzy cap, rotor, etc but hasn't sorted it. It will sometimes start after a short rest but also have parked at night after no problems only for it not to start in the morning. As you can imagine is very frustrating. Has anyone had similar problems

My 89 mk2 golf gti(DIGI) heater blows warm air only when revs are high/driving. . cant get my head arond this prob.Changed water pump,thermostat,made sure over flow pipe is not bolcked,got rid of air,leaving running with cap off,fan cutting in ok.Oil not milky.No loss of water. Any one out there know wat it could be??????????HELP its Cold!!!!

Hello there!
I have a 1972 tax free GT Beetle for sale.MOT until August. This car was originaly yellow, and is now apple green. It has the GT gear shift, padded dash and console. It has alloy wheels (not the GT wheels, but i do know who has them!!)The car has had a webasto sunroof fitted and has sloping headlights. The car is in fantastic condition. Rain gutters, floor pans, door bottoms, wings, bonnet, deck lid, sills etc are in excellent condition.!The doors clunk shut as they should. Windows and quarter lights work fine. One key still fits all the locks.
The interior is black vinyl and still has original rubber matting on the floor. Engine is a 1300, starts fine and runs fine.Recently had a brand new starter motor from G&S car parts. The car is in use every day. Looking for around £1800 for the bug, or maybe a sensible offer.

heya all ive a 98 passat 90bhp and its like the fuel line is cloged only a small bit of fuel is gettin to the filter.the filter is fine but where is the fuel pump is there one near the tank or is it beside the filter i think it maby the fuel pump thats broke the fuse is fine too any thoughts

I have owned suzie an early 1992 VW LT35 camper for 9 years. She is a family friend who has carried us around Europe repeatedly. The professional conversion is better than any I have seen. She has toilet, shower, kitchen, fridge wardrobe, blown air heating and hot water, double bed and high level kids double. above is a large swedish locking roof box.
Drive is great with a VW turbo diesel and power steering and 3 across seating in the cab. Cruises at 70 MPH and returns 25mpg. full service history and has burnnt vertually no oil over the recent 2000 mile Med and back trip. High mileage but Just LTs' Tony tells me that for an LT she is just run in.
I may sell suzie to a good home although seek about £5K for her.
Does this interest anyone who is seeking a very good and trust worthy vehicle?

Just got my first VW, a Passat 2 ltr 115 sport. I have a few niggles and would like some help please. At the moment I am waiting on a new key and then they both will need coding, I don't know if this will cure the problem but if it doesn't?
1/ The courtesy lights don't work at the front.
2/ The switch on the drivers door panel for releasig the boot doesn't work ( Although the petrol flap does )
3/ Anyone had a problem with the brakes sticking on. I think from my knowledge of cars it is the brake pedal that is sticking. Anyone had the same?
All in all it is a good car and I'm very pleased with it so far. I intend to do some work myself shortly, ( replace brake fluid, new air cleaner and plugs, and maybe a coolant flush and change )
Can anyone reccomend a good parts supplier in or near Manchester?
Anyone reccomend a good Indie in the Manchester area or rather Aston-U-Lyne.
Lastly, Would I be allright in fitting 17" wheels. Is there any special fitting that I should be aware of?

I currently am trying to restore a 1976 fuel injected beetle, I am having issues with it wanting to idle at a very high RPM, I am curious if it is a vaccum issue or if there is some other part of the vehicle that I should be looking at, I just recently got the injection workiing but I still have issues. Can anyone help please, I have tested all the electricle switches and all seem to be working, at a loss and need help. Thanks

I have a recurring problem with my starter motor! Runs fine all year long until our annual pilgrimage to Cornwall which seems to send it out of sorts, (nothing that a very slight tap with a hammer does'nt sort out) but this is rather annoying especially as you need someone at the ignition to start it! This is a long suffering problem and one that several changes in starter motor have not rectified? I have owned my 1972 T2 for 18 years so would like to finally sort this out? Anyone any ideas? Please!

we have looked longingly at buying a bus for many years - been reqular visitors to RTTS and cornwall in general where to us this is vw heaven. over the years we have come into contact with people who have offered advice and info on purchasing a bus/restoration etc...

Has anyone ever done this conversion? I had some sort of critter crawl up and eat my entire wiring harness. Of course the wiring harness is no longer made for the 1979 California VW Bus, so I did a fuel injection to carburator conversion. New manifold pipes, electronic ignition (Fireball 700), new carburator (Weber 32/36DFEV), new distributor (wireless), new Fuel pump, new coil, new fuel regulator. I did some of the initial wiring and it starts, but it only starts for around ten minutes and then it just cuts off. Any ideas? Hey, if you could send me a simple wiring diagram, just to make sure that I got it right, I would appreciate it. You know, this wire to the coil, that wire to oil pressure regulator, that soret of thing.

Hi there, l would like to buy a classic vw camper, l need a starting point! I am not sure what to look for when considering if a camper is in good condition/a reasonable price. Would £4000 buy me a camper in a reasonable state? Or is this just pie in the sky? If not what do people consider a fair price for a decent camper. l am fairly technically minded and am happy to tinker about abit as necessary!I would love a split screen but realise that this budget wouldn't be enough,just love all campers and want to get started. I have a 1994 VW Passat Estate 1.9TD (75bhp Umwelt) in Silver. It has served me exceptionally well since 1999 and gone from 25K to 188k and still on the original clutch.

Sadly the rings on one cylinder have worn and it now burns a bit of oil and has lost some compression (so I'm told). The time has come to let it go and before I send it to a dismantler I thought I would post here. I would much rather it went to somebody who was a VW enthusisast who could either fix it or use it for parts/donor etc.

The car is in cheshire and I would be open to offers if somebody wanted to take it off my hands.

hi, i'm looking for any other LT 35 or LT van owners and enthusiasts who can offer me some information help on wiring the fusebox electricals for a restoration rebuild i'm currently trying to do - and who may have a few relays and bits and pieces as spares available possibly to trade etc - Any help appreciated...

Our van is now almost complete, Just got a few wires loose by the fuse box that are still out of place and not wired correctly and so need to try and replace them or wire them in to the relevent circuits...Can anybody out there assist or help please ?

We have a 6 month old beetle. Twice in last last week its been parked on a hill and left with the handbrake on but when we returned to the vehicle its has rolled both times. Have had it back to the dealers both times to be told handbrake shows nothing wrong with it when tested. My wife now refuses to drive it as both times she was in it. The second time a chap (who car she had rolled into) tried the handbrake and thought it was on properley. Anyone else suffered similar problems? If so what was the outcome?

I have the VW Charger Mk 1 with flat 4 beetle engine, but it keeps melting the number 3 piston. I have a picture of damage if it helps.
What can be causing this?

He’s in really good condition, has had lots of TLC and driven carefully. He’s a very solid car and attention has been paid to him mechanically, so he now performs very well. He’s had a new engine (which has done very few miles), alternator and suspension, to mention just a few things:

Can anybody shed light or experenced any similar problems with their SHARANS.I'm pulling my hair out trying to figure what it is.What's happening is while driving along the revs will become erratic and the engine will cut out sometimes restarting while still in motion but sometimes not (causing great embaresment to all sat in it)but it will start after a few minutes.i will be glad to hear from anyone who has any ideas what it could be.

My 2000 jetta GLS is using 1 qt. of oil every 1200 miles. Mechanics don't find engine problem. Car runs great! Mileage 62,000. The car used oil from the beginning but not this much.

Any suggestions?

I have a 2001 jetta tdi,engine was replaced also timing belt.Now I have atapping noise like a lifter or maybe the tension isn't correct for the belt.The mechanic didn,t have a VW DIAGNOSTIC TOOL. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING WHEN IT'S COLD,(SMOKES LIKE AWOOD STOVE UNTIL THE EXCESS FEUL IS BURNT OFF,TEMP GUAGE DOES NOT WORK EVEN THOUGH HE REPLACED THE SENSOR, MY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON. WHEN IT IS WARM IT STARTS AND SEEMS LIKE THE ENGINE RACES UPON START UP. MY GAS MILAGE IS AROUND 40 TO 44MPG AND I SMELL FEUL.
