Pierburg 2E2 carb is notorious for giving trouble, but is basically a good carb, just has too many gizmo's, and can take a long tiome to find which one has failed. It could be a faulty "Choke Pull-Down unit", when the diaphragm splits, it stops controlling the choke, so it comes on by itself at the most awkward times, making the mixture too rich, so the engine splutters, and loses power. Try temporarily overriding it with a rubber band, to keep the choke flap open, if that works, get a new pull-down unit from GSF, about £20, easy to fit too.
