There used to be a repair kit for this commom problem, it's a 2 inch square steel plate, shaped like the bulkhead where the clutch cable passes through, but it's self-adhesive. basically, you remove the cable, clean the bulkhead and stick it on, then re-thread the cable. No welding quick and dirty. Sorry, don't know who sells them now, but try the usual specialists, or you could cut one from sheet steel. Good Luck
