Hi Gordon.

I'm not 100% on FRD's but I doubt very much that they would have a designed fuel overflow. I do know that all Dellortos are sensitive to fuel pressure and like to run at about 3 - 4 PSI. Pressure higher than this will overcome the needle valve and mean you will run a rich mixture and may have also leaks from the carb.

If you are using the VW mechanical fuel pump, there can be a problem. Although it delivers at the correct pressure for the dells while you are running, when you stop the car, the heat from the engine rises into the fuel pump body, the carbs themselves and the fuel lines. The fuel gets hot and expands. Because the fuel has nowhere to go as it expands, it pushes past the needle valve in the carb, floods the float bowl and you may see some of it dripping out past the throttle spindle. You will probably have to hold the throttle fully down until the engine to fires when you do a hot start to clear the excess fuel.

The easiest soloution is to fit a CB rotary electric fuel pump. They deliver at the right pressure, run quietly unlike some other pumps and they have a built in return system so expanded fuel can return to the tank instead of flooding the carbs.

If you are using a facet or similar electric fuel pump, they deliver at a higher pressure than the carbs can stand, and this will cause the flooding and dripping. You need to fit a fuel pressure regulator in the fuel line, or change to a low pressure pump, such as the CB rotary pump. Try Stateside tuning or VW Speedshop if you want one.
