Jim -

I think you'll struggle to get it done round here. I've been to Blackburn Brothers (MoorBrook street, Preston) for machine work to non VW engines and for valve guides & helicoiling on VW stuff. It's a good shop but they're not really set up for specialist VW aircooled work. I asked about them opening up some heads to take 94's and they said they could do it if I supplied the measurements but they would have to do a lot of machine setting up as they've never done it before.

So.. I'd much rather take my bits to a dedicated VW specialist - someone who does them regularly. Alternatives are VW Speedshop in Manchester - although they don't do it in house - they take their stuff to another engineering shop to do it, but you could easily drive there & back.

There's JMR up in the Outer Hebrides - He did some work for me when he was back in Manchester and I was very impressed with the work and the service. Not the cheapest but probably the best.

There's Stateside Tuning in Enfield. They come recomended by one of our club members who has used them before.

I need some machining doing soon - I'll probably ask for a quote from JMR and Stateside then go for the cheapest. It's going to be a shipping job either way.

If you do find somwhere more local - Please let me know - and good luck with the 1914 !
