That's very good Dave. I don't think that our system is that bad. We all have to pay tax and since I became Jan's carer everything like rates electricty gas and his medication is reduced. Lots of deductions and unless you're a pisspot or a gambler you should manage to live unless of course you have to pay rent then you are well and truly stuffed. Rent is expensive and even a one bedroom place in Melbourne can cost up to $1,200.00 depending on where it is so your pension doesn't go far then. We are allowed to have $265.000.00 in the bank before they penalise you so that's cool. If you've saved and paid off your home OZ is a good place to be. Weather is great, food's not that dear and as I said no vices and you'll be fine. I live adequately off mine. Our rates are about $2,000.00 a year but I do use water and have a garbage collection of two bins per week so the council looks after the place and as Jack said we have good roads here too and very few pot holes unless we have lots of rain. If there are holes they fix all that pretty quickly. When we had some Canadians staying with us they commented on how good all our roads were. They reckon even in Canada the roads aren't that great.
The only licence besides my drivers one that I have to pay for is Tillie's. She cost about $15.00 per year. She 's good value.

She's a bit lost tonight as Jan is in hospital suffering from dehydration. It's so hot and dry here presently and he just won't drink water. He's had this before so 24 hours in hospital to give him some fluids.
Even that is free ! Jack in the country no waiting in ER. The doctor comes in and inserts a canula and straight in and into bed. Big sigh !! nobody to put to bed tonight. I won't know myself. When I got there the nurse said, "we're a bit busy tonight". She had to bandage a wrist and bed bath some old codger called Maurie. In Melbourne last time there were 22 ahead of us. This coutry life has it's rewards. I had to warn the nurses that he'll ask them if they'll get RANDY around about 10.00PM. I put his favourite country singer on 'Randy Travis' and he listens to him before he falls asleep. I didn't want them getting the wrong idea lol.
