Cheese and condensed milk, that was one of Dad's favourites, and Christmas cake, buttered and then a slice of cheese on top. Mam used to go garrity at him about it and he would just smile and do it all again, that's how he liked it. It used to make me smile when a Scots lad I worked with would talk to me sometimes and leave all the others totally baffled when he said that as a lad, if they'd been playing around the bings he and his mates would go and knock on some wifey's door and ask if she could spare a piece for them. It was the look on the others' faces, total shock that a child should be asking a woman for a piece, and bafflement that same child should be asking for a piece. And of course when I asked if they'd got one, he replied, aye, usually with jam. Great fun. I might not have the accent but I know a lot of the vernacular.

Anyway, BB, I commend your idea to the hoose, I like the idea of the latter-day detectives, complete with bunsen burners etc, so away Dave and bile yer heid! You know nothing!!!!!

Gilly
