Subject: Cameras

I'm looking for advice on buying a camera, dear Blether Bar pals. Any photography buffs among you? My compact Canon digital camera, which served me well for six years, has started giving a yellow tinge to every photie I take. The subjects in my photies look jaundiced.

My intention is to buy a camera that I can use for the usual family photies as well as photies that are good enough to be used in technical publications. This is part of my plan to take up freelance science/technical writing.

Should I buy another compact camera with good specs such as one from the Fuji FinePix range, or a digital SLR? Does an SLR take photies that justify the higher price?

I'm investing some of my redundancy money here so I want to make a wise choice. Reading reviews on photography websites has stunned me into indecision.

Ta very much for any guidance.

BB
