Males and females are both used. Not much difference, I just prefer female dogs.

They do not get spayed/neutered until they are returned to the school at about a year old. The school likes to look at the entire litter upon return (and all their past family history), test for the best health possible and if a particular litter has a few with excellent hips one or more of those few will probably get pulled for breeding. If poor hips they may get rejected and become "career change dogs," when I started doing this they were called rejects, none are rejects. Pretty involved process. Leader Dog has an extensive breeding program. No dog leaves the grounds unless they are spayed/neutered unless they are a breeding dog.

Great, well bred dogs. I am honoured to have had some of them in my life.

Glad I brought a bright spot to some of your days.

I agree, I can't imagine losing a baby and your eyesight in one fell swoop. Amazing people.
