The TV dramatisation was more atmospheric and captured the attitude better.
As for the truths this captured the attitude of the screws absolutely, so much so that I used to advise people on the outside that the film was named after them.
Little was done to show the positive side of life, the friendships formed, the experiences shared only a borstal boy will know this.
As for the underlying racism issue, this was the 70s, this did happen, right or wrong just live with the past.
