Scum.... watched this film a number times and Ray Winstone plays a good Borstal Boy!
YES the film does depict Borstal correctly, apart from the Gay scene, something that occurs time and again on these forums! NO Gay did not happen! end of!
I spent over 23 months in Borstal and not once did anything gay happen, either rape or freely.
Yes Borstal was as violent as the film, perhaps even worse, but boys will be boys and hard they were!
I even laughed during the film at the part in scum when Ray put the snooker balls into a sock.... yup I did that and so did many others!

Borstal was to sort us out... not to help us, or make us socially acceptable.... get real... it was tough!
