In reply to: Live Music Fan 's message, "your info on Prank Monkey" on 08:49:45 03/07/02 Thu

This is in response to “Live Music Fan” and “Nunya.”

Let me just start by saying that I definitely support any live music scene here in Maryville, no matter what I think of the bands, because this town needs it.

I don’t think Jason has a “very negative outlook on music”; I think he has a very negative (but also lighthearted and funny) outlook on pop music. In my experience he’s not someone suffering from “depression.” Also, you obviously didn’t read all of his music page: firstly, he definitely does not like the Backstreet Boys, N’Sync, or any other trite, ridiculous boy band. The bands he does seem to like (according to his page) are the Dismemberment Plan and the Clash—two very intellectual and socially conscious bands. Secondly, you wrote, “In your music page you give your opinion about Prank Monkey,” but I don’t think Jason mentioned Prank Monkey at all. Kevin wrote about Prank Monkey and simply gave his opinion that if a band’s influences are Blink 182, MxPx, and New Found Glory (I personally don’t know what Prank Monkey’s influences are), then they’re suspect; and that Prank Monkey’s music is not punk and Kevin appears to think its trying to pretend to be.
Maggie already dealt with the age thing, but I’d just like to add that, not only does Jason have multiple degrees, he’s also one of the few people I’ve met at Northwest that has original and intelligent thoughts on a wide range of issues that are outside of the world of Maryville.
About his area of study, you wrote, “C'mon buddy, history's not that tough, it's not like it ever changes.” I just wanted to point out that history is a generative, non-static discipline that is constantly changing, but nice try.

By the way, incognito means anonymous or secret—Jason has his address on his page, so that doesn’t really make sense. You guys are the ones not using your names. The only other part of your message (Nunya) I’d like to comment on is the “crappy page” remark. If most of the students at this university read a tiny fraction of the linked material on this page (http://www.nwmissouri.edu/~S214560/links.html), they would be far more intelligent people. And, to be perfectly honest, Prank Monkey may be a good pop-punk band that the MTV kids will love, but if they read and thought more (or used what they read and think in their writing) it might carry over to their lyrics and music and make the band really worth while instead of just basely entertaining or fun.
