Opening Theme... -- T'Karen, 17:57:28 10/13/01 Sat
Okay what does everyone think of the opening credits? I love the song Faith of the Heart. I think it does fit well with the show. However I wish they had done a Space, the final frontier.... v.o. For one thing I would get a kick out hearing Scott B. say the words. I didn't like the opening music for DS9 and Voy. I realize that neither of those shows took place on an Enterprise but I would have liked some other v.o. by Avery Brooks and Kate Mulgrew. It is a S.T. staple and I miss it.
As to the visuals I love them. I love the quick sketch of humanity's explorations in visual form. I love the pictures of astronauts from the 70's. I only wish they had included a picture of the Challenger crew. It would be a nice tribute to them.
What does everyone else think?

- I like it too. The montage AND the song. Both of those things ties THIS "Enterprise" to our own time. It points up how close these folks are to "us". I find it rather inspiring. But like you, I kind of miss "These are the voyages......". (NT) -- MichelleB, 19:52:35 10/13/01 Sat

I came to the board this afternoon to discuss the same topic (the theme). At first, I thoought I wouldn't like it because every other ST series had an original, instrumental theme. But after a few weeks, and a download of the lyrics, I realize that it couldn't be more fitting if it had been written for the show. Maybe a SB voice over would have been cool, but I think it would have been even cooler to have him singing the song. (Get the QL soundtrack -- it's definately worth it.) (NT) -- Emily H. - Article from Startrek.com. Star Tek Behind the scenes. -- Computer Geek!, 18:58:23 06/05/05 Sun
Star Trek: Enterprise may be gone, but the show and the people who worked on it are hardly forgotten. The following article originally appeared two years ago on the previous version of STARTREK.COM for our Enterprise section.
Producing a TV show like Star Trek requires a small battalion; headquarters (the production office) and several other companies (art department, wardrobe, make-up, stage crew, post production, etc.) all serve as components to what has been described as a well-oiled machine. Another important component within the battalion is the security team, the ones charged with being the first in and last out, the ones who make sure that everyone that is on set should be on set. Steve D'Errico and working partner Lazard ("L.Z.") Ward comprise the security team guarding the sets and actor trailers for Star Trek: Enterprise.
The hours are long but the rewards are great. For starters, you get to look after the cast and crew of Star Trek, one of the more respected, professional and expert television crews in all of Hollywood. But the responsibility is great and for that, like most other positions, the show requires dedication and hard work. Steve joined the Star Trek security team after five years at Paramount. "I came to work, like all the other security people in our department, as what is called a 'floater,'" he recalls. "I worked a number of different productions and television shows. The person I replaced, who was a full-time security guard on Voyager at the time, left at the end of the fifth season. I interviewed for the position, got it, and came to work on season five of Voyager. I had also, prior to that which helped me a great deal been the security officer for the filming of 'Star Trek: Insurrection.' I worked on that production for about four months. Quite a few of the same people who worked on 'Insurrection' also worked on Voyager. So I got to know quite a few of the people at that time. I started here in January of 1998."
Prior to Paramount, Steve was based at another venue Los Angeles is famous for the shopping mall. "I was security director for a number of shopping malls in southern California. My last job was a very large shopping mall in Torrance called the Del Amo Fashion Center."
After landing at Paramount, Steve discovered that he had another interest: writing. "Actually, my interest in writing didn't really come forward until I started working on Voyager. I got to know the writers and I had a few ideas for Voyager. I worked on them a little bit, and when I felt comfortable enough, I approached Bryan Fuller, who at that time was one of the head writers for the show and asked him if it was possible to pitch a couple of story ideas. He said sure and, as a result, I was actually able to sell a story idea to Voyager for season seven. Unfortunately, it never got made, but it was a very interesting experience."
Of all the Star Trek shows, Steve's favorite is Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. "I am a Deep Space Nine fan, but I like all the incarnations," he says. "I enjoyed the actors a great deal on DS9 and I'm a very big Avery Brooks fan. I thought he was excellent. 'In the Pale Moonlight' is, without a doubt, I think, one of the best episodes ever produced on Star Trek.
Other Trek episodes that made their mark on Steve include a couple from Star Trek: The Next Generation, including "The Measure of a Man," "The Drumhead" and "The Pegasus."
"Those are three of the strongest TNG episodes that stand out in my mind," he comments.
The hours worked on a TV show can be legendary, but some things help pass the time. The crews, he says, are "a lot of fun and a great group of people to work with. Bob Picardo, when we were on Voyager, did a fun parody song about the hours we put in on the show. I average about 14-16 hours a day at work, not including my commute time. When people ask me about my hours I always say, 'The hours are lousy, but the actual minutes are really good!' We've had nights where we wrapped at 2:30 a.m. Normally, I leave about 45 minutes to an hour after the show finishes. We have to secure the stage, make sure all the proper power is turned off. The longest day I ever worked was on 'Insurrection' where my actual, physical work day, all things excluded, drive time, everything, was 21 ½ hours continuously."
As for Enterprise, it's an experience he won't soon forget. "I've never worked in an environment where I felt closer to the people I work with. There's a lot of humor. Everybody's very supportive of each other that is cast and crew. The cast is a great group of people. They're very outgoing and giving." In other words, they treat everyone like real people, regardless.
The captain may be the leader, but as for Scott Bakula, don't confuse him with someone who treats others any differently. "People ask me what's it like to work with Scott Bakula and I tell that he is the kind of person that you would want to have for a next door neighbor. He's real, genuine and has, undoubtedly, one of the funniest senses of humor I've ever heard. He's extremely well-read, he knows film, he knows television and if you can make a joke, Scott picks it up instantly and he'll run with it. He's a great guy."
And it's working with people like Scott and the rest of the crew that makes Steve's job all the more enjoyable. Remember, those security hours at the studio don't factor in your drive time, your down time, your sleep. "My travel time varies. It usually takes me about an hour to get to work, but on a bad day, it can take as long as two and a half hours to get in."
Once Steve arrives, and his arrival time changes from day to day depending on where they are in the shooting of the week's episode, his work begins. "I'll get here in the morning, see if anything's going on, check the office, check the briefings, go to the stage, double-check that everything that needs to be unlocked is unlocked and everything that needs to stay locked is still locked. Then, depending on the day of the week, I'll either work a certain position on stage or in the back of a stage to make sure that people who are only authorized to can come on set. We also try to help out the production staff as much as possible, if they need something moved or unlocked, we're there for that."
Once home and away from work, Steve enjoys his spare time or what little of it he actually has. Some of the other television shows that take his fancy include Frasier and a certain political show that appeals to his political interests: The West Wing. "I like The West Wing tremendously," he says. "I've found that a lot of people on Enterprise are West Wing fans. The writing is very sharp I've become sort of a political junkie so I enjoy that show. I also enjoy Stargate SG-1. Some of the stories are really well done. I don't really have a lot of time to watch television, other than those few shows."
And reading? Well, you can almost forget about the novels he used to once devour with great regularity. "I used to try and read a lot of sci-fi years and years ago, but I'm afraid I don't have much time for it now. I still try to read Tom Clancy. I enjoy his books. Now it's mostly newspapers and periodicals. It's tough to get into novels when you work the hours I work! On the weekend, I have a family and I'm trying to do stuff around my home."
What the cast and crew often cherish is the hiatus, the breaks between seasons that are akin to summer vacation. "I'm doing a lot of stuff around my house, because you have to let a lot things slide during the season. Basically, my turnaround, I'm home eight to eight and half hours between shifts, so obviously a lot of that time is spent sleeping. I do stuff around my home. I live fairly close to Disneyland I enjoy Disneyland a lot. I used to work there. I've got an annual pass and a lot times I'll just go down and hang out at Disneyland. My wife's not a big fan, but I'll go and just spend the day there. I also try to do a little writing, but sometimes your writer's block prevents you from getting much accomplished!"
Disneyland in his down time, maybe. But Steve has had an even better annual pass, and that is one to Startrekland!
[Editor's note: Towards the end of Season 4, Steve realized a life-long dream to appear in a Star Trek episode. He can be seen playing an admiral in the two-part arc "Demons" and "Terra Prime.]

- The Season Finale just didn't meet up to my expectations. -- Computer Geek!, 04:57:15 05/25/05 Wed
I am a fan of Star Trek TNG but COME ON, the episode was wasted. There could have been a better send off than that. Killing Trip off was just proposterous. It didn't serve any purpose (other than his complete stupidity to save Captain Archer from his own stupidity. Maybe that was the point ; to have 100% loyalty to your Captain? ).
The episode previous had Trip crying and wanting a child with T'pol. Why didn't the writers continue with that theme and have kids running around Enterprise 6 yrs later? Why jump 6yrs ahead without filling in the gaps of what happened in those yrs that we the viewers won't have the chance to see. Just amazes me how Season Finales can get completely screwed up when the writers are pressed for time. It was a great series with a lot of potential yet to be seen. Should never have been cancelled.
Looking forward to another Star Trek tv series. Maybe next time they will go forward in the Star Trek Saga instead of reverse. I give the writers credit. They had the daunting task of writing a prequel to Star Trek the original series.

I'm not all sweetness & light, but why did they end it this way? Riker & Deanna got on my nerves, killing Tucker just plain sucked, and the last episode was a waste.
Let's give our 'alternative' endings.....
I see Tucker & T'Pol happy, making babies. Archer & crew really doing exploration, fighting the good fight, and making lots of friends/some enemies along the way. The Federation gets formed, and life creeps up to Capt. Kirk's debut.

I thought this episode was one of the great ones this season. The thing I don't understand is why when the orion women were in the brig the men were still affected by the pheramones. They should have been able to filter out the pheramones in quarantine.
If you can get rid of pathogens when they travel to other planets and keep the whole ship safe, they should have been able to filter out the pheramones. At least to a healthy level.
I thought the part where Malcolm was lifting weights with Tucker ( I think thats his name. They never address him anymore) was funny. Anything to keep their minds off the women. Pain = idle hands
Did they show any previews for next week? I didn't catch any!

- Some disappointment -- talon, 00:11:34 03/11/05 Fri
I went over to the UPN site to pick my favorite episodes
They had a list of episodes, none I care for.
My favorites are
1: The night they slept together, loved T'Pol's show of jealousy. Their discussion beforehand, and T'Pol's look over her cup of tea the morning after. Priceless.
2: T'Pol taking Trip home to Mother, loved the fact T'Les saw through T'Pol's explanation of who Trip was. Trip and T'Les got along beautiful, she also got him to admit he loved her.
3: The episode where T'Pol convinces Trip to undergo neuropressure treatments with her. As much as she complained about it, she took it as an opportunity to get close to Trip. I think she has always been attracted to him since the day he rubbed her ears in the decon chamber.
They have led to the courtship (neuropressure treatment) where in Vulcan culture the man and woman get to know each other better (intimacy).
Their special night when they had sex, was consumating their marriage. I believe T'Pol was aware of this. She was staking her claim on Trip after Trip and Coles appeared to becoming intimate. She was jealous.
T'Les understood all this when she question T'Pol about who Trip was.
I also think Koss was aware of this too. He couldn't bond with T'Pol because she was already bonded with Trip. He had no choice but to let her go.
4: Second trip to Vulcan episode was another excellent episode. We find out a lot about Vulcan culture and how dysfunctional it was. Trip did an excellent job working with Soval. Who would have thought it was possible.

Fans Unite in Attempt to Save Enterprise UPDATE!
UPDATED 2/23/05:
Star Trek fans have been taking it to the streets in their efforts to get the point across that they are not happy with the show's cancellation. As well as the previous demonstrations talked about below, fans have also been seen in New York, at both the Viacom and Sci Fi Channel headquarters hoping to drum up support for a compromise that would see the show jump over to the popular science fiction net.
The next stop on their campaign is Paramount Pictures in Hollywood, home to Star Trek. On Friday, February 25, fans will line up outside the studio in order to gain publicity for their cause. Please check back with STARTREK.COM for more information later this week.
Star Trek fans, discouraged by the recent decision to cancel Enterprise, have united to form a strong grass-roots campaign aimed at letting both Paramount and UPN know that they aren't going to give up the show quietly. The campaign's main thrust is that Star Trek does not need a "rest" and that it should have a place to air, somewhere, even if it isn't on UPN or CBS, the two most high profile Viacom-owned networks.
The strategy for getting the message across includes an ad in the Los Angeles Times that appeared on February 15 (and can be viewed via this link), protests outside the studio and UPN, letter writing, e-mailing, online petitions and even faxing their protests to Paramount. (The fax option, by the way, is the least effective. As a courtesy, please do not send Paramount any faxes. You can, however, e-mail us at community@startrek.com and we can pass your messages along.) We would also like to point out that there may be other campaigns underway to save show that request a monetary donation. We would urge caution before you part with your money as these groups have no connection to Paramount, nor are their activities condoned in any way by the studio.
The history of the campaign to save the show actually began before the end of the third season of Enterprise, as cancellation rumors then were rampant. Two main groups surfaced last year, SaveEnterprise.com and EnterpriseProject.org, both with one goal in mind to keep the show from going away. In the run-up to the announcement of getting a fourth season, these groups were very vocal and production personnel and the cast were very grateful for their support. (Not to mention the positive feedback from fans across the globe!)
After the powers that be reached a deal for a reduced licensing fee between UPN and Paramount Network Television, the show was given the go ahead for a fourth season. It survived to reach the requisite number of hours to go into syndication (around 100) but was then given the ax this year when lackluster viewing figures followed the show's move to Friday nights at 8:00 p.m. Although the ratings never improved significantly to ensure a fifth season, the show featured decidedly stronger storylines and increased interest amongst long-time Star Trek fans who were intrigued by the plots that sought to tie in elements of the Original Series or Star Trek: The Next Generation. Sadly, it wasn't enough. Other factors were also in play, as Scott Bakula said in a recent STARTREK.COM chat, "Unfortunately we don't fit into UPN's business plan and really haven't for the last two and a half years."
Times change and the entertainment industry has evolved over the years. Sure, we would all like to see the show continue in some form. But the reality of producing live-action TV now is far removed from the days of three networks and a handful of shows that were watched by several million people. Nowadays the many offerings from cable networks have fragmented the audience to such a degree that viewing figures once considered unexceptional are now looked upon as viable for a show to continue production. Enterprise, however, does not fit into this category right now and the future of Star Trek remains unknown. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing, as Star Trek has been on extended breaks before: Ten years elapsed between the Original Series and the first movie, plus another eight years before production on TNG commenced.
There is one thing that is certain Star Trek will never die. The fans posses the katra of Trek, they will never forget the show or let it slip away. They will always remember.

I'm shocked Trip is leaving Enterprise.
To TPTB... What is the point of doing this? The show is cancelled!!!
Trip needs to suck it up and do his job. T'pol has been in worse situations than this and survived.
Not to mention the last episode Trip almost was left on that ship for good (with of course who else Malcolm)! T'pol didn't complain. She did her job!
AAH!! It's just stupid!
SO on to the Aenar.
When the aenar woman was scanning Archer's brain she said
" You have many facets, some of which are conflicting!"
Shran replies " That explains a lot!"
Shran never misses a cue!
So a good conclusion to the 3-parter
Maybe the next ep will resolve the tension with Trip and T'pol before Trip leaves.

Star Trek: Enterprise Cancelled!
After four seasons, Star Trek: Enterprise has reached the end of its mission ...
PRESS RELEASE
UPN and Paramount Network Television have jointly announced that this will be the final season of Star Trek: Enterprise on UPN. [Production will continue until the end of this season, which will finish shooting in March.] The series finale will air on Friday, May 13, 2005.
"Star Trek has been an important part of UPN's history, and Enterprise has carried on the tradition of its predecessors with great distinction," said Dawn Ostroff, President, Entertainment, UPN. "We'd like to thank Rick Berman, Brannon Braga and an incredibly talented cast for creating an engaging, new dimension to the Star Trek universe on UPN, and we look forward to working with them, and our partners at Paramount Network Television, on a send-off that salutes its contributions to The Network and satisfies its loyal viewers."
David Stapf, President of Paramount Network Television, said, "The creators, stars and crew of Star Trek: Enterprise ambitiously and proudly upheld the fine traditions of the Star Trek franchise. We are grateful for their contributions to the legacy of Trek and commend them on completing nearly 100 exciting, dramatic and visually stunning episodes. All of us at Paramount warmly bid goodbye to Enterprise, and we all look forward to a new chapter of this enduring franchise in the future."
A prequel to the original "Star Trek" series, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE premiered on UPN on Sept. 26, 2001, and aired for its first three seasons on Wednesdays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). On Oct. 8, 2004, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE moved into its current time on Fridays (8:00-9:00PM, ET/PT). Through its four-year run, STAR TREK: ENTERPRISE produced a total of 98 episodes and earned four Emmy Awards.

So everyone knows T'pol isn't married anymore! What Next?
I guess that is it. This ep wasn't that great, but then again it is a to be continued..........

- An interesting article about Teleportation. From Startreks' site! -- Computer Geek!, 20:58:29 01/17/05 Mon
Air Force Studying Teleportation?
A scientific paper purportedly delivered to the United States Air Force Research Laboratory in August puts forth what appears to be a serious study into the physics of teleportation, the instantaneous transport of matter across a distance without traversing the space in between.
The paper examines different theoretical approaches to teleportation, including quantum entanglement (which is raised in the upcoming Enterprise episode "Daedalus"), the alteration of space-time geometry, and even psychic conveyance. The "SciFi" approach, defined as "the disembodied transport of persons or inanimate objects across space by advanced (futuristic) technological means," is identified but then dismissed for further consideration.
However, the Introduction of the report credits science fiction of the 1950s and '60s and especially Star Trek ("spawned by the late genius television writer-producer Gene Roddenberry") for popularizing the concept. It was in the 1980s and '90s that developments in quantum theory and general relativity physics raised the prospect that a realistic discussion of teleportation could take place, the report asserts.
The paper, titled "Teleportation Physics Study," can be downloaded in PDF format from the Federation of American Scientists site, fas.org. It is very academic, but if you can even begin to understand it, you can judge for yourself if this is a serious scientific study. A full story on the report can be found at Space.com

Well I was hoping that you were right Geek about Archer. That having Serak in his head would have taken the edge off him, but unfortunately it hasn't.
Last night's epeisode clearly showed why I don't like him.
He doesn't listen to his people. It's do it my way or the highway. Why was he so angry?
He had a mentor and a good friend on board. He should have been happy.
What I still find ironic is that Archer and Tucker still don't believe someone should ever die. They have a very dangerous occupation. Any mistake will cost lives.
Tucker and T'Pol seem to be in a strange place. I think much of that has to be due to Tucker's comments after T'Pol's wedding. He had been avoiding her.
Not that I blame him. It's pretty tough being around someone you love and can't have.
What I wonder is if he is aware that she isn't married anymore. Phylox is going to be their savior. He has done a good job counseling T'Pol.
What is today, won't be tomorrow. With patience averything you want canbe yours.

Am I the only one who noticed the Romulan at the end?
Romulans will bring more controversy and confrontation!
Looking forward to it!
This was a good conclusion to a somewhat laid back (IMO)
3-arc storyline
The more I think about it I wonder why T'pol wasn't chosen for the Katra? Did Surak know she had the P'Nar syndrome and would therefore endanger the passing of the Katra to another or was there another reason? Did he think T'Pol was weak?
I am actually relieved that Koss decided to break the marriage with T'Pol instead of the other way around. It was quick and to the point, no waiting 5 episodes down the line.
No New eps for 3 weeks.
If I think of anymore to write I'll post later.

So T'Pol is a free woman -- talon, 21:38:39 12/04/04 Sat
Koss allows T'Pol out of their marriage.
She only did it for her mother who is now dead.
Savol likes Humans
Humans progressing ten times faster than Vulcans. That must be a bummer for a species that thinks of itself as being better than others.
it seems Tucker has learn to deal with Vulcans and Andorians so much better than Archer ever has.
I think it's because he respects other points of view of other people.
Archer believes only he has a right to a point of view. Everyone else is wrong.
How long will it take before T'Pol tells Tucker about her mother, about Koss setting her free?
Will he take her into his arms to console her as she grieves for her mother?
I guess now she has been cure of her P'Nar syndrone, has she been cure of her neurological damage she suffer from her addiction to Terellium D?
Will she be able to show more emotional control?
Is anyone really surprise that T'Pol is once again free to have a relationship with Tucker?

Dr. Soong needs to wake up and see Malik for what he is.
I don't think it has all sunk in yet.
I wonder if he will learn of Udar's Death. That might be Soong's breaking point.
I am starting to see why Dr. Soong was compelled to create Data. He could make The Perfect Human! Maybe Data was modeled after Udar!
This was another great ep/performance for Brent Spiner! Can't wait for the conclusion.

Borderland part 1
This was another great performance by Brent Spiner! To see Dr. Soong in his earlier experiments brought a whole new perspective to the character for me. I always thought of him as an insane old man that created Data ( largely due to ST:gen depictions of him)!
The part where Dr. Soong tried to flee the market was amusing. Archer locking the cuffs and then unlocking them just at the moment he was climbing the wall! All I could think was " OOH, That's going to hurt tomorrow!"
Archer should have known better than to trust Dr. Soong
(okay he used the transponder in the neck..I'll give him that....what he should have used was a stun collar : } that would slow him down!! it sure knocked T'pol and others on thier A*$).
Anyway the guy's a genius( I found myself wanting him to escape).
He previously found a way to modify a PDA to unlock all the doors in the compound , like he wouldn't find a way to escape again. He uses just about anything as a tool.
OK on to the genetically altered humans.
The martial arts I didn't expect but it was a good addition.
The alt. humans just left me with more questions. Maybe they will be answered in the next eps.
AND I'm sick of people getting transported off the ship and then having to be rescued! ( I think TPTB took T'pol so she wouldn't have to talk to Trip for 3/4 of an ep!
Just stretch the drama out like a rubberband until it snaps!)
I've said this before:
They NEED better Shields!
In conclusion
Dr. Soong tells Archer "You better start learning Klingon!!! "
; } Klingons are going to be TICKED ( and that's the polite term)!

This episode was good. I think the next episode will be better. Brent spiner is always great to watch.
Back to this week.
So T'pol getting married to Koss? I just don't see the point. He could find a more useful partner. I think there is something there. Maybe The high command wants Koss to spy on her.
Also,Why do this for her mother? Her mother didn't even act like her job was that important to her, but then again she's Vulcan (little emotions). T'pol must feel extremely guilty for her actions leading to her mothers forced resignation. I wonder how that will change her everyday relationship with Trip back on the Enterprise whether she marries Koss or not?!?!
So do you think T'pol will go through with it?
I think she will
but just maybe her mother will step in and change her mind for her. Or Trip blurts out how he feels?
The scene with Phlox was funny. What exactly does his bubble head do? Has that ever been explained. I was waiting for him to spit venom or some vial substance and found myself disappointed when he didn't. Malcolm or Travis should have asked Phlox
" What the Hell was that! "
Archer seemed content towards the end. Maybe TPTB will show a different side to him this season. It didn't seem to hurt that they threw in a girlfriend for him( with a prior history with him..That should lead to some interesting character revelations)! She is a Captain of another Starship right? I think i missed that part. I didn't catch her name either.
Maybe there will be some cooperation with her on some missions!
One last thing
Can't wait to see all the updates they have done to the ship now that it's repaired!
I can't believe Archer didn't want weapons on his ship the first time around. Peaceful exploration is one thing but you never know what lies in the shadows. Just because you have weapons doesn't mean you have to use them.

- New season off to a great start! -- Computer Geek!, 03:48:09 10/15/04 Fri
As usual an ep that leaves us hanging, although I am completely enjoying this season so far. It will be interesting to see the multiple dimensions in the upcoming ep. Looking forward to Brent Spiner also.
One problem I had with this last ep was the fact that the Americans weren't standing up for themselves. Also the Germans were too friendly. Don't think they would have let Archer off that easy when he was walking with the woman in the street.
Also, When they were in the alley after they killed the alien they didn't even try to hide or be discreet. Just not logical ! Still a good ep dispite some issues !
Talon.............They aren't going to get rid of Archer anytime soon! I'm Sorry : ) At least you have some hope that T'Pol and Trip might tie the knot! That should help!

Two Emmys Go to Enterprise; First for Shatner
It was a good night at the Emmys last night for Star Trek and related company. Enterprise added two more of the coveted statues to its trophy case, plus William Shatner picked up his first award from the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences.
Enterprise won in the categories Outstanding Special Visual Effects for a Series, and Outstanding Music Composition for a Series (Dramatic Underscore). The show had received four nominations, though it only had three chances to win because it was competing against itself in the Visual Effects category.
"Countdown" beat "The Council" for that prize, accepted by nine members of the Visual Effects team led by supervisor Ronald B. Moore. "Countdown," the next-to-last installment of Season 3, happened to re-air the very weekend it won its Emmy.
The uncommonly moving "Similitude" was responsible for the Music award, which was bestowed upon composer Velton Ray Bunch. Combined with the two trophies won by the show in its first season (related story), this brings the total Emmy count for Enterprise to four.
The kudos were handed out at the Creative Arts Awards presentation, the ceremony consisting mainly of technical, music and guest actor categories, held separately from the main Primetime Emmy show which takes place next Sunday.
For the climactic award of the night, we can honestly report that Captain Kirk defeated Darth Vader Shatner beat James Earl Jones along with Martin Landau, Bob Newhart and Matthew Perry in the category Outstanding Guest Actor in a Drama Series. He did so for his highly praised role as "Denny Crane" in The Practice, which has spun off into a new starring vehicle for Shatner this fall called Boston Legal.
The audience at the Shrine Auditorium reacted to Shatner's win with a bit of surprise, followed by a long and hearty ovation. "What took you so long?" Shatner remarked to the Academy as he accepted his award. After thanking everyone who voted for him along with everyone who didn't vote for him, he recognized Practice creator David E. Kelley for writing the part and inviting him to play it. "We gotta find out what that 'E' stands for," he added. This was Shatner's second Emmy nomination (after 3rd Rock from the Sun) and his first win.
During the red carpet arrivals prior to the ceremony, STARTREK.COM asked Shatner if he did anything special to prepare for his "Denny Crane" role. "Oh, yes I did push-ups, calisthenics ... I learned my lines..." He was not expecting to win that night he had practically already conceded to his competition.
When Bunch accepted his Music Composition award, among his acknowledgements was Enterprise star Scott Bakula, "who has been a fan and so loyal to me over the years." Bunch's career has been closely intertwined with Bakula's in fact, two of his three prior Emmy nominations were on Bakula shows, Quantum Leap and Papa's Angels. This, also, was his first win.
Nine trophies were actually given out for the Visual Effects award to the Enterprise crew members who took the stage. Besides Moore, that team consisted of visual effects producer Dan Curry; coordinator Elizabeth Castro; lead compositor Paul Hill; lead animator Greg Rainoff; CGI supervisor Fred Pienkos; and lead CGI animators Sean Scott, Eric Hance and Chris Zapara.
"I'm not worthy," Moore humbly stated as the group's spokesman. "I'm here because of the gentleman behind me [Dan Curry]." He also acknowledged the show's supervising producer Peter Lauritson, along with Bakula and the rest of the "wonderful" cast, and his visual effects mentor Richard Edlund.
Backstage, Curry was quick to point out that the award represents many others who were not on stage, "a large number of people who are dedicated to making Star Trek look great." He had been afraid that the two nominations in the same category would cancel each other out, "because the episode supervised by Art Codron ["The Council"] is equally good and I don't know how anybody could choose one over the other."
So what do they think distinguished "Countdown" from the others? "I would think probably a lot of the flying over this big alien bomb," Moore said, as well as the "big interiors" of the Xindi weapon. The same team won Enterprise the Visual Effects Emmy two years ago, but Curry, Moore and many of the others have won numerous awards over the years for the Star Trek franchise, since the first season of The Next Generation. And they're not done yet.
"Look for next season. We're doing some work that we are so psyched about we're amazing ourselves. We think the present season's gonna blow us all away," Curry predicted.
Makeup supervisor Michael Westmore got a nomination for "Zero Hour" in the category Outstanding Makeup for a Series, Miniseries, Movie or a Special (Prosthetic). That award went to Nip/Tuck's James MacKinnon, who happens to be a Trek alumni, having done makeup on "Star Trek: First Contact."
The big winner of the evening with five technical awards was HBO's Carnivΰle, which is executive produced by former Trek writer/producer Ronald D. Moore (the "other Ron Moore").
The Creative Arts ceremony will air in a two-hour highlights show (condensed from four) Saturday night, September 18, on E! at 8:00 p.m. (please check your local listings). The Primetime Emmys will take place the following night and will be broadcast on ABC. At that presentation several other Trek alumni are up for awards, including Patrick Stewart as executive producer of Showtime's "The Lion in Winter" (related story).

- Next Season -- talon, 21:41:53 06/14/04 Mon
Wonder what is going to happen next season. They have traveled back in time, but for how long? How many episodes will they spend in the past. I hope it's not many.
How quickly will they realize that Archer somehow found his way back into the past and to earth. Somehow I think Daniels had something to do with it. For some reason Daniels wants him and only him alive for the future of the federation.
The unfortunate thing about showing Archer surviving it eliminates the possiblity of the Enterprise getting a new Captain who could bring something new to the show like they did with Babylon Five a few years ago.
But who are we kidding, they made several attempts to get rid of Picard and he somehow always managed to survive and return.
Besides TPTB always think the Captain is the most important person on the show. That the rest of the crew is incapable of moving forward without him.
A point well made last season when Archer felt himself the only one capable of carrying out the mission. Then T'Pol wasn't able to keep the ship out of danger.
She froze and let her emotions dictate what to do which was nothing but wait and hope for Archer's return. She should have move the ship after a reasonable period of time to save the ship and crew. Archer definitely would have done it, I'm sure even Tucker would have too.
My guess is that to Vulcans life is too precious to risk and allow to die. To Humans life is important too but not to the extent of the mission. Some may have to die so others might live.
It's too bad there won't be a new Captain next year. He or she could have brought some new energy to the show.
Hopefully they will spend some more time developing the characters. I think they did a good job with Tucker and T'Pol. Now they need to develope the others too.
In this day and age on Television Character developement and relationships are important especially in an environment where people live together in close quarters.

- How could they miss the changes in San Francisco in 100 years? No Skyscrapers & was the GG Bridge built? -- Frances, 05:42:34 05/28/04 Fri
Obviously, I'm not a history buff....but SF has grown tremendously since WWII! I think the time traveller could not save Archer in that timeline, so he moved them to somewhere else to save him. Maybe...or the close explosion of the death weapon(can you say 'deathstar', sure you can!)
caused arift in the timewarp(two steps to the left!) Scott Bakula, on Wayne Brady's show, said they filmed several endings, depending on if they were renewed or not. In one, he died. If I was him, I'd be really chessed- screwed in two shows. QL left him leaping with no hope in sight, and now, dead.... But wait, there's more....

Enterprise Renewed For Fourth Season (UPDATE)
Star Trek: Enterprise fans rejoice! It's official. The show has been picked up for a fourth season, as UPN revealed this morning at the annual "upfronts" in New York. The show, whose future had not been guaranteed, has finally been given the thumbs up by the network. One significant change: The show will be moving from Wednesday nights at 8:00 p.m. to Friday nights at 9:00. (America's Next Top Model is slated to fill the previous Enterprise Wednesday night slot.) UPN Entertainment president Dawn Ostroff reminded reporters that the Friday slot didn't hurt the popular Fox sci-fi series X-Files and that Enterprise fans will follow the show to its new night.
Like many good shows, it can take awhile for the audience to find it, live with it and see it develop. Enterprise has certainly evolved over the first three years, with the last season providing some great television along an extended story arc that featured a new race, the Xindi.

Actor Steven Culp, known to Enteprise fans as Major Hayes, will be joining us on May 19 at 2:00 p.m. PDT to talk about his role on Star Trek, as well as his numerous other TV and movie parts.

Culp is a well-recognized face as he's starred in dozens of popular TV shows, including JAG, 24, The West Wing and CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. This past season on Enterprise, Culp has made his mark with Trek audiences as the soldierly Major Hayes, leader of the MACO squad of specialist fighters aboard Enterprise.

- The sooner these gaurdian people go the BETTER !! -- Computer Geek!, 22:23:36 05/13/04 Thu
This whole time travel thing is getting to be insane.I can't wait for it to be over.
I can't believe Archer is so dumb to believe that the reptilians would side with him after they beat the crap out of him. The beatings Must've damaged his already retarded naive brain.
Degra should have been a lot more cautious of his fellow councilmen. He even stated the the Reptilian leader( can't remember his name) poisioned his own son. That should tell you something......Watch your A** !
What happened to Stephen Culp's character. They should at least mention him when they involve the MACO's
Who's to say he didn't get sucked into space when Enterprise took damage.
Good ep but pissed me off !2 more eps left!

I really liked this character. The actor does a great job of portraying his feelings. I was hoping he would be the first Xindi ambassador to Earth! And who are those Guardians, and why don't the Xindi see that they are being played by them.... The Reptilians should be more cynical about them. I expect them to be much more sceptical/untrusting(can't think of the right word) of them, given their previous attitude/actions.

- Whether Enterprise will be renewed next season...Letter writing Campaign -- Computer Geek!, 01:09:51 05/09/04 Sun
05.07.2004
Fan Groups, Sites Rally on Behalf of Enterprise
Later this month on May 20 UPN will announce its Fall lineup and thus confirm whether or not Star Trek: Enterprise will be renewed for a fourth season on the network. Taking their cue from the successful letter-writing campaign by fans in the 1960s to save the Original Series from cancellation after its second year, a number of grass-roots efforts have formed to make sure the network know that support for the show is strong and the audience is loyal.
"The Enterprise Project" is one of the leading efforts in this campaign. Earlier in the year this organization successfully raised the funds to place an ad in industry trade paper The Hollywood Reporter. The ad was an "Open Letter" to Dawn Ostroff, UPN President, and Les Moonves, president/CEO of umbrella network CBS, stating, "We are representative of the millions of viewers from all over the world who faithfully watch Star Trek: Enterprise, support its sponsors and highly value the series as a superior dramatic program." The ad, signed by a number of fan and fan groups, emphasized that they want to see the show enter its fourth season and beyond. (To see a full-sized image of this ad, visit this link.)
Last month the Enterprise Project took its rally to the fans in person, with a presence at Starfest 2004 in Denver, Colorado, where group founder M.J. Rogers presented a panel on "Enterprise and the Future of Trek," discussing ways for fans to promote the show. A standing-room-only crowd filled the room to discuss their feelings about the show and the franchise. In addition, the group manned a table to push its "Bug UPN" campaign, and got 500 fans to sign postcards addressed to Ostroff stating, "We're 'bugging' you to keep our Enterprise on the air!"
"The enthusiasm fans have for the series is incredible," Rogers said. "However, many fans have had no idea of the possibility that the show won't be back next season. This was an important way to get the word out, especially since UPN has said that the renewal decision would be made this month." Visit EnterpriseProject.org for more information.
A number of other Web sites have sprung up making similar calls for action. Among them, SaveEnterprise.com is encouraging fans to not only write letters but to call UPN at (310) 575-7000 and ask for the voice mail line where you can leave a message urging renewal of Enterprise. EnterprisePostcards.com is providing a service whereby it will send postcards to key network and corporate executives on your behalf, for only the cost of postage and the postcard.
Recently USA Today ran a poll regarding several TV shows "on the bubble" of cancellation, asking respondents whether those shows should or should not be renewed. Enterprise won "enormous" support, far more than any other show in the poll (related story).
The announcement regarding renewal of Enterprise is expected to come Thursday, May 20, at UPN's "upfront sales presentation" in New York. It is that week, beginning on May 17, that all the broadcast networks will reveal their Fall schedules to the advertising community, and thus seal the fates of all their shows

I didn't find any of the matches a shock. For example T'pol and Trip.......who DIDN'T see that comin'...Maybe poor Reed.
That guy needs to be put on "who wants to date Reed" show.
It would only seem fitting that Archer would marry the first alien that he rescues.
And Phlox.....( don't get me started) He probably would have populated an army if Archer asked him to.
I really thought that Loriens character was great.
So goood ep looking forward to more

Production Report: "Countdown" Ramps Up Toward Season Climax
The action and tension accelerate to a fever pitch in "Countdown," the next-to-last episode of Season 3, under the direction of Robert Duncan McNeill.
SPOILER ALERT! Without giving very much away, the story continues the struggle to prevent the Xindi superweapon from being used against Earth. In this chapter the Xindi are ready to initiate the weapon's arming sequence, despite opposition within their ranks. Those dissenting factions agree to help Captain Archer's crew stop that "countdown" from commencing ... but with conditions. The script was written by Andrι Bormanis and Chris Black.
This production had a rare eight-day schedule (as opposed to seven) for principal photography, and even with that there was a lot to pack in. A great deal of action almost two days' worth took place on a Reptilian Ship, with specific sets for a Bridge, Cell and Corridor. Almost a full day was spent on a set representing the inside of the Weapon itself. Filming also took place inside an Insectoid and an Aquatic vessel, though those scenes will be mostly rendered in post-production.
Standing ship sets used included the Command Center, Armory, Engineering, Launchbay, Sickbay, Captain's Mess, plus lots of use of the Bridge where they just can't get away from the smoke and the sparks. Swing sets re-used from previous episodes include Degra's Ship, and the "Avian Residence" which will be seen in "The Council." A very white, bright "Transdimensional Realm" set was utilized for scenes from both "The Council" and "Countdown" lumped together in one day, with the three actresses portraying the "Sphere-Builder" characters, Josette DiCarlo, Mary Mara and Ruth Williamson.
The rest of the guest cast in "Countdown" consists of the recurring Xindi characters from recent episodes, plus Steven Culp as "Major Hayes," along with a few day players. Many of the recurring stunt players who normally don't get credits also returned and were put through the paces on this episode, under the coordination of Vince Deadrick Jr. Those included Dorenda Moore, Paul Sklar, Kevin Derr and Michael O'Laskey as stunt MACOs; and Ian Eyre, Jacob Chambers and Joey Anaya as stunt Reptilians. Alex Chansky stunt-doubled for Steven Culp as "Major Hayes," and Diana Inosanto filled in for Linda Park for a few physical moves.
Though principal production concluded last Thursday, March 4, some scenes were pushed off into B-unit photography taking place this past Monday, still with McNeill at the helm. Visual effects supervisor Dan Curry stepped into the director's shoes to film additional footage for "E²" that day. That all took place next door to production of the season finale, "Zero Hour" directed by Allan Kroeker.
This is the first time McNeill has come back to Enterprise for a second time in a season. He last directed the now-classic "Twilight," along with "Cold Front" in Season 1 and "The Breach" in Season 2. "Countdown" is the first writing collaboration between Bormanis and Black. Bormanis last co-wrote "Hatchery" and previously scripted "Extinction"; Black wrote "Doctor's Orders" and co-wrote "The Forgotten," among others this season.

Archer is still the same headstrong captain, not allowing the others to help when the want to be involved.
I was surprised at T'Pol's reaction to the whole situation. She didn't even want to talk to Trip about any of it. There is something there with T'Pol and Capt. Archer!?!?!?!
I'm sure once the Xindi realize that humans are on their side that they will help them rebuild enterprise...so...maybe this is the beginning of some allies!! After all future guy said the xindi are in the federation in the future!!

Hi folks! Liked last nights episode! -- Luoodles Post! Post~ ARRGHHH!!!!!!, 12:25:31 02/26/04 Thu
It was great seeing Webb again. I love the part he plays on this show. Did anyone else think it was rather "easy" for he and his men to be overthrown by the rest of the crew? I thought they SPECIALIZED in preventing that sort of thing. Anyway, I also was wondering WHY no one after witnessing the Captain's bizarre behavior/command decisions never thought, "Huh! I bet that slime that got squirted on him is doing some BRAIN damage or something." Flox HAD checked him already but apparently not THOUROUGHLY. Gee WHIZ! Do these folks not watch T.V.? LOLOLOLOL!!!!! Talk about FORESHADOWING! ROTFLOLOLOLOL!!!
Anyway, for me all of the above just added to the enjoyment of the show. I'm liking it more and more every time I watch it. I hope they keep it on the air. I ALSO really hope they are able to hang on to Webb.. or whatever his name is on this show. Steven Culp. That boy raises the entertainment level of every show he's on.

- Tucker and T'Pol -- talon, 19:16:35 02/16/04 Mon
Will they or won't they get together again?
Somehow I think they will.
I think T'Pol tried to put the squash on it when she thanked Tucker for his help in Human sexual relations.
I think she really enjoyed herself with Tucker, but is afraid she will lose herself and her self control if she continues.
Tucker on the other hand knows he can't win an arguement with T'Pol concedes initially to her request of no more Sexual activities, but wants to continue the neuropressure treatments with her because he enjoys her company and
believes she can't resist wanting him again in the long run.
What is interesting T'Pol appears to be adopting more Human posture. The way she sat in the chair waiting for Tucker to join her. She was making herself comfortable and being seductive. Something she never would have done when she first arrive. Then she would have sat ramrod straight with a slight forward lean.
What is Soval going to say when she returns after the mission. He'll take one look at her and wonder why she's so emotional

I actually liked this ep (eventhough I contradict myself further down). It reminded me more of JAG ( just the action combat scenes). The combat training with Major hayes was great. I liked seeing them finally kick each other's butts. Getting sick of Archer's " Stop at nothing to get what u want" attitude. There was Jealousy and UST between T'pol and Trip.
One thing i didn't get was the Alien guy. If He's human than why in the end would he say that his poeple will prevail when the xindi are destroyed?? Did that give Archer a heads up Not to destroy the Xindi ?!? Who the heck is this alien?!?! Could TPTB write a more confusing timeline. I would have just left that whole thing out of the ep period. I feel like the writers have written themselves into a storyline that they don't know how to get out of!!
Maybe not....It just feels that way when they drag this xindi thing on for a WHOLE SEASON!!!! They might as well put TO BE CONTINUED at the end of every episode!!
And the whole expanse bubble blob.....Did they not think it wouldn't try to swallow them also...Come one ...there was already something stuck in it!! This crew is pretty naive!
All-in-All this was an attention grabbing ep. Just can't wait til' next season ( if there is a next season) when this whole expanse garbage is over!!

I can't believe that Archer didn't see the fight coming & deal with the problem before it came to blows. It's been brewing for months!I can't believe two trained military men would act soooo stupid. Now they are best buds, of course! Unlike T'Pol & Trip-how very high school!
Hated the alien storyline-very mean. In fact, I hate that TPTB have made Archer this cruel, consciousless person, from the caring, intuitive man he was. We came up with the Geneva conventions for a reason! People don't treat others this way - It leads to Holocausts,Inquistions, and wars supported by 'god'! The ends do not justify the means. If so, we then become the worst, that we can be. Much worse than any emeny could be. Sorry for the rant-this attitude has been bugging since the beginning. I liked the old Archer, and his trip of exploration. And how are they going to explanation the obvivious changes in "ST history"
when the future doesn't have Xindi, but does have Florida?

What's that? T'Pol confronts Tucker about giving a neuropressure session to a beautiful MACO officer.
Tucker calls her on her Jealousy. T'Pol responds that she doesn't get Jealous, she is a Vulcan afterall.
We then see them both stripping it down for some good ole adult night time activities

The sci-fi drama is set to move to Wednesdays at 9:00/8:00c beginning March 10. That same night, the network's midseason CGI-comedy "Game Over" will kick off at 8:00/7:00c followed by the return of "The Mullets" at 8:30/7:30c.
The news comes on the heels of persistent rumors about the future of the latest "Star Trek" spin-off. Despite a major storyline revamp, "Enterprise" is averaging 4.04 million viewers for its first-run episodes this season, down 18.54% from the same point last season (4.96 million). Overall, nearly half of the show's audience (47.87%) has been lost since its inaugural season in year-to-year comparisons (7.75 million).
Nevertheless, "Enterprise" won't be airing fresh installments for a while in its new home. Its March 3 episode, "Azati Prime," is currently the last original scheduled until April 21. Interestingly enough, "Game Over" its expected to wrap its six-episode run on April 14 meaning "Enterprise" could very well resume its old Wednesday, 8:00/7:00c slot on the 21st.

- One Question !!! Why is Archer so trusting of other races when he is just proved over and over again that you can't always trust everyone. Giving everyone the benefit of the doubt is just highly over rated!! -- Computer Geek!, 03:25:54 01/24/04 Sat

- Great episode tonight. -- talon, 00:30:37 01/22/04 Thu
Tonight's episode was the best of the year
It had a great combination of different plots that one could see coming, but were great to see them unfold.
It was nice to see that Archer and the gang realize that the Andorians don't do anything nice for you without a price attache to it.
It was interesting also to see how Commander Shran can see the long term benefits of an alliance with the Humans while his superiors are only care about their own interest.
It may be why the Vulcans and Andorians don't get along. You know, The Vulcans have something, then we should have it too, but they haven't earned it or can appreciate what having it is all about.
I thought it was great that the Andorians thought they were better than the Humans because they had a better ship. They underestimated the intelligence of the Humans and how far they would go to preserve their interest.
The Humans understood the implications of allowing an unstable people a weapon they didn't understand and that could destroy the universe.
It was interesting to see Commander Shran call Archer's bluff. Then to see T'Pol arm the weapon. He once again underestimated the resolve of the humans and their morality.
Nice little scene with T'Pol and Tucker. "Are you avoiding me?" "Three neuropressure sessions a week is hardly avoiding you."
One could sense T'Pol working through her feelings for Tucker. He was so close. They were getting closer. She didn't know if she should allow herself to become more intimate with Tucker. She's fighting her desire for him even though it's what she's wanted since Tucker massaged her ears in the decon chamber so long ago.

Production Report: Kroeker Directs Pivotal "Azati Prime"
When Allan Kroeker steps in to direct, you know it's probably an important episode. Kroeker who usually comes around for season premieres and finales and epic two-parters took the helm of "Azati Prime," an episode which begins the culmination of the Xindi throughline which has defined the entire season.
In the story, scripted by Manny Coto, the NX-01 finally reaches the red giant star Azati Prime, where it was learned in a prior episode the Xindi superweapon designed to annihilate Earth is undergoing its final phases of construction. After the crew locates the massive object underwater on an ocean planet, they realize its destruction will require a suicide mission. Archer insists on doing it himself. But then Daniels shows up and throws a new wrinkle into the plans. The episode will answer substantial lingering questions about the Xindi story arc, while raising even new mysteries.
Matt Winston, of course, returns for the second time this season as temporal agent Daniels. The rest of the guest cast includes the usual Xindi suspects, namely Randy Oglesby as weapon designer Degra; Tucker Smallwood as the Xindi-Primate council member; Rick Worthy as a Xindi-Sloth or "Arboreal"; and Scott MacDonald, who this time is identified as a "Reptilian Commander" rather than just "Xindi-Reptilian."
The cast and crew returned from a two-week holiday break on Jan. 5 ready to embark upon one of the most pivotal episodes of the season. They got back into the swing of things by doing only Bridge scenes the first day with just the principal cast, then spread out into the Ready Room, Command Center and Corridors the second day. Starting the third day and extending throughout the schedule, quite a few scenes were shot inside the Insectoid Shuttle which was originally constructed for "Hatchery." When the Xindi guest cast came in, they performed on sets representing Degra's ship and a Reptilian prison cell. A new set representing a ship in the future was constructed for the Daniels scenes, consisting largely of a "greenscreen" where some astonishing visual effects will be inserted in post-production.
Most of the intense action was saved for the latter part of the schedule, when the Bridge and Engineering take the worst beating they've ever seen. Smoke, fire and sparks filled the sets, as well as stunt players taking falls right and left. Some scenes were even shot in slow-motion. When the script called for a crewman to be engulfed in flames, stunt coordinator Vince Deadrick Jr. took on that role himself. It was an exciting, adrenaline-charged moment on the Engineering set, but everything went smoothly.
Though the production schedule called for seven days, there was actually an overlap Tuesday and Wednesday with the next show, "Damage," directed by James L. Conway, as the action is continuous from one to the next. So Kroeker and Conway were both on set those two days, with "Azati Prime" actually wrapping on Wednesday.
As mentioned, the teleplay was crafted by Coto, but the story concept was developed jointly by him and Rick Berman and Brannon Braga. Coto previously wrote "Similitude" and this week's "Chosen Realm." Kroeker was last on set for the Season 3 premiere "The Xindi," and also directed the Season 2 cliffhanger "The Expanse." He's also done "Shockwave, Part I" and "Part II" among other Enterprise episodes, on top of an impressive resumι from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager which includes the series finales of each.
"Azati Prime" the 18th episode of the season (with six left to go) and number 70 overall is scheduled to air on March 3.

In its very short lifespan, the simbiot grows rapidly from baby to adult, and surprises the crew with detailed memories of the real Trip's life. Meanwhile, the accident has left Enterprise disabled and adrift inside a destructive space cloud, so the crew attempts to free the ship before they are stranded forever.
