Well young man, I can see your problem, Grimsby you say? There was a ophthalmologist in Grimsby who was a rather odd chap as I recall. Both farsighted in the left eye and nearsighted in the right, to make matters worse he suffered from dyslexia. To make matters even worse his stuttering was completely unintelligible. The Royal Ophthalmological Society eventually had to have him removed to an atoll in the Pacific for everyone’s well being.

Well you can see the problem, of perhaps you can’t as many of his patients never recovered. He would examine a patient, and in his dyslexic way write the wrong diopter for the lenses, as no one could understand a word he said there was no way to verify the accuracy. I suspect both yourself and your father had way to strong of a prescription, while you Mum was cursed with demagnifing spectacles. By the way do you still have you spectacles? This chap was a wizard at making his own tortoise shell frames, sometimes not even bothering to remove the tortoise first, I would dearly love to have some for my collection.
