So you are already whining as if us loosing tonight is as good as done - no wonder the boys have trouble believing in themselves. I can't be at the game tonight but am listening on the radio - poor substitute but better than nothing.
Now lets set a few things straight as I don't think we want to be seen as a bunch of whiners I was at all three games up to now - 1st - Our boys have been playing good hockey - a little more chippy than is the norm for them but good hockey none the less. The 1st game was a 2 goal loss and Game 2 & 3 were ONE goal games - nothing to be ashamed about. All this commotion about penalties - our boys have been playing VERY physical in this series and that is when a team generally draws penalties and in my opinion our boys have been getting called just as fairly as the opponents - both teams have gotten away with one or two nasty things.
2. The slash on the Humb player on Sat. nite was definitely a dirty slash - I was sitting right in the midst of Humb fans where I had a birds eye view of the net at that end of the rink. There was no call for this and the Bronco player was in a great deal of pain and sat out the rest of the game with ice on his arm - I hope he is OK today.
3. The called back goal - again with my birds eye view - our own player took the net off as he was going in to once again run Humboldt's goalie(we best not complain when they run ours)and the puck did indeed go into the net - from under the side when the net was lifted and our player was on top of Skalapsky - it was NOT A GOAL - SORRY!!!!!
4. Yes, I too have been witness over the years to Humboldt Coach loosing his cool and throwing things - I have seen many other coaches do so as well. I would say this just shows that he plays with emotion(Yes I recall his playing days)and it would seem he coaches his players that way as well. It does not make him a bad guy - it pretty much gaurantees that he will have a highly penalized team. But he does deserve credit for also know when to hold his boys and himself in check - they have been playing quite disciplined hockey through these playoffs.
5. Our guys seem to have slipped in the discipline dept though - I know that one needs to play physical in these playoffs but it needs to be smart. I don't think any of us are impressed with the lack of discipline that led to our player breaking a door off the wall in a dressing room in Humboldt when he got a misconduct - I was not too proud at that moment.
6. Thee have been many slashes, trips, etc on both sides that have not been called on both sides - we are not totally innocent here either so lets not get carried away on that one - lets just enjoy what hockey is left and hope that the loosing team does not injure the player who have to go on to represent Sask. in Manitoba. If we win or loose let's be able to hold our heads up high - so far we can as we have played excellent hockey and gone farther than anyone(even us) thought we would.
I say - Congrats - play hard - we are proud!!!!
