First of all I will be upfront and admit that because of distance I haven't seen the team play at all this year. I do follow them, however through this web site and the SJHL site. It's been interesting to read all the theories of the self proclaimed hockey experts in this forum and I thought I would add my nickels worth of insight.
I did some quick figuring tonight and discovered the the Mils stood 6th overall in goals for (3rd in their division) and 6th overall in goals against (2nd best in their division).
It would seem to me that to blame the defense is slightly misguided. I suppose they could boast the lowest goals/game average, maybe that would make everyone happy.
To blame the scoring punch also seems a bit off the mark. Third in the division, even better than Notre Dame's gpg average is not too bad.
It looks to me, from afar, that there are a number of things that aren't falling into place for the team.
The number of one goal loss games is very telling, the lack of penalty minutes may tell a tale, but I think what seems to be the problem is the lack of a unified game. One game the defence/goaltender plays great and the offence lets them down and then the reverse the next game.
I'm not sure from where this problem stems.. perhaps it's the leadership on the bench, perhaps the leadership on the ice, perhaps lack of good preparation from either the coaching staff or the players themselves.
It does, however, seem to me, that whining, name calling, bitching, not going to games is completely counter-productive.
A winning teams needs cohesiveness and positivity form all parties - management, coaches, players and not least of all fans.....
Just my thoughts from afar.
