Just Browsing.... -- Mishie., 12:40:04 02/18/03 Tue [1]

I am pretty much the #1 of your Mr. Jordan Hack, however haven't noticed any comments of him on here. It's nice that you guys are seemingly pulling things together and doing very well these past couple of months. I just wanted to know how Jordan is doing. I'm sure it's nothing less than amazing as he is tied as number one scorer on the team. Definately not surprised. Good luck to you guys.

surprised -- not suurprised, 11:27:05 02/21/03 Fri [1]

i am surprised especially seeing millsaltheways comments and stats on our goaltenders stats lately that quinton seems to still keep getting the starts lately when you have your hottest goalie sitting. This time of year we cant afford to many goals against especially in the playoffs,as is a proven a team with hot goaltending can go a long way in the playoffs.I dont classify 5 goals against last night in a must win game as hot, granted we didnt play our A game but when that happens someone has to backstop the team to victory and i believe Jamie has the best shot of doing that,so please give him another start steve we will be happy and you will be too hes proven that! Must wins translates to must play!4-1-0 and 2.40 gaa. will get the job done

[ Edit | View ]

not surprised -- milsfan, 00:24:36 02/22/03 Sat [1]

just to comment on the goaltending i dont think its goals against average that counts or save percentage its wins that takes you all the way and gauthier has won the last 3 for us so why put him down? he has made some big saves for us when needed especially against n.d. and last night against laronge. some people love him and some people hate him but i love his style and if there was any goalie in the league that i would want between the pipes during the exciting time of playoffs it would be gauthier because he is so calm and collective its scary at times, he can control a game at any time so when the pressure is on his teamates can be relaxed and get the job done at the other end, but again its a team effort and the mils are on a run heading into the first round of playoffs, keep up the good work boys

Go Mils Go.... -- Old Mils Fan, 05:09:12 02/22/03 Sat [1]

Bottom line you won against LaRonge and need a win against Nipawin. Keep put the goals in early cause the SYSTEM says you guys must play that stupid 1-2-2. Its great if it works but what weve seen for the most part it has not. Basically the two forwards on the blue line may as well be pilon's as they are standing still with no chance of catching a speeding by opponent. All this means is that we get a three on two on our defence and we end up in our own end. This is not the PLAYERS fault at all they are doing what they are told. When you have a 6-3 lead and almost blow it...and this has happened in other games...don't you think the bench bosses would learn. Keep playing aggressive boys, you have the agility, speed, and finese to score. Good luck in the next three games. Sure looking forward to the playoffs ... heh sure would be nice to see a Melville vs. Yorkton series.

RE COACHING -- Styckboy, 14:22:34 02/26/03 Wed [1]

Hey Gauthier deserves to play - Don't you remember him beating on that Yorkton pup with his blocker back in Nov? To any true blue Mils fan that's got to be worth something. Anyway if your the coach how do you decide who's on a roll
& prepare for the playoffs - who got the win against ND? Last nite in Weyburn wasn't Gauthier's fault. The guys on CSFL gave him a game star.

Go Mills, it's you birthday, we gonna party like it's your birthday! Two wins and a tie is nothing to scoff at! And on overtime loss still grabs that point! All the best tonite against Estevan. I"ve got buds on both bluelines, but I gotta root for my boy Kyle! If it weren't for the D-men, hockey would be one crazy game. Just remember there's a full 60 minutes you gotta play, and it's a team effort. Go hard or go home! All the best boys!

Goalies -- Hockey Rules, 11:17:46 02/27/03 Thu [1]

Its Playoff time and ND is our first priority and Gauthier has their number so I would go with Goach and if he fails go to Jamie it is that simple. We need to work them as they both strive to stay on their game.
The team needs to focus and bare down and make it happen. I think the coaches have done all they can do, it is up to each individual to find that extra drive that will ultimately make or break a game. You have a week until you play I suggest some team building be happening right about now as team chemistry can make or break you. So think of the team first and yourself second and you will come out on top.
GO MILS GO!

Thank somebody from up above that you made the post season boys. It's hard to believe that a team with more wins is the odd man out. I can't see that happening ever again. I talked to a couple of the boys the other day and they said Todd was going to be back for the post season. I hope he is all healed up as his presence will only help the team. Work hard boys and hopefully the series will go more than 4 games. Mills Forever, Forever Mills!

playoff round 1 -- walter, 23:29:55 03/03/03 Mon [1]

The first order of business is to adjust the helmet size to compensate for the shorn locks. Secondly, Notre Dame will absolutely not " out talent " the Millionaires. However, the Hounds certainly may outwork the Mils if the work ethic is not there throughout the game. The creativity on the Mils is obvious to everyone once the puck crosses the red line but it is within the defensive zone that determination takes over with all 6 players needing to be on the same page. Mils in six.

When is steve going to see that Jamie is his #1?
The kid has been great for him all year and its time to let him shine. Jamie better be starting in net tonite, if he isnt im sure he will be going in around the 15:00 minute mark again. He showed all year that he is a capable 18 year old. Its time to win games now, not time to show people that the Gauthier trade was a good one. Do what it takes to win games, other than that lets pack the rink and tie up the series.

Pound 'em tonight -- Ace$ & Eight$, 15:31:52 03/07/03 Fri [1]

Here's my take on what happened in Notre dame the other night. First and foremost, our guys don't seem to be able to play 60 minutes of consistent hockey - AGAIN. Granted Gauthier let in three goals on seven or eight shots, this is not the performance a playoff goalie has to give, but the other guys on the ice should have helped a bit more. There are six players on the ice after all. Secondly, the officiating was not really up to snuff either. Mr. Davison could have been a bit kinder, but I guess fourth place teams aren't supposed to do all that well against first place teams. (Humboldt suspensions for the second and third man in- remember? Also the boys didn't seem to be as physical as they have to be. Notre Dame is a young, physical team and can dish it out.

What has to happen tonight is the Mils have to pound them, hammer them into the boards and physically dominate them. They have the firepower - although the goal judges in ND seemd to be counting double - must want to bolster the goalie's GAA. They can win this series, but have to want it more than it seems like they do. After the last game, this goalie is predictable, all they have to do is shoot high ' cause he butterflies right away. Be physical and take advantage of this and the game is won. You can win at home, then all you have to do is steal one there.

We'll see.....

[ Edit | View ]

re: pound them... -- Old Mils Fan, 16:53:06 03/07/03 Fri [1]

I agree with Ace$ & Eight$ that the Mils must be more physical. There was a game in Nov. the Mils won in ND were they played a physical game and won decisively...Go Mils..POUND the HOUNDs...
I have other opinions about our situation but will comment after the season ends...this team has more talent than the win loss record indicates. ttfn

Negativity of Access 7 -- Loyal Fan, 12:07:31 03/09/03 Sun [1]

What's with the announcers for Access 7 Mills game vs Hounds. All six periods were extremely negative from the point of view of the announcer. Is this guy from Yorkton??

Let's review the positives:
1) we are in the playoffs
2) we are playing competively with the top team in the league
3) are guys are giv' 110%
Give the fans a break Access 7 surely you can find something positive to say!!!

Speaking of negativity.. -- Ace$ & Eight$, 22:25:25 03/09/03 Sun [1]

Yes, those Access clowns are from Yorkton, but you don't have to gothat far to see any negativity. All year the Mils covberage in the Melville Advance has been nothing but negative crap. Maybe Wade S. should take a lesson from the Yorkton This Week. Their team makes the playoffs and they get front page coverage. The Mils have to settle fof third page of the sports section. Oh well, maybe one of these days the Advance will get the picture...

What a site! The only place where the executive, coaches, players, fans, announcers, web designers and now newspaper reporters can't escape the wrath of Mils fans. Who's next, Cash the mascot, the stickboy or the little kids who sell the programs, who knows...but stay tuned. Now don't get me wrong, I agree with both Ace$ & Eight$ and Loyal Fan and their constructive criticism...I just find it funny how nobody is safe if they work for the Mils organization. People say you criticize the ones you love the most...I guess this just proves that our fans really love everything about this team and are willing to express their opinions. Go Mils!

Mils Team -- Hockey Rules, 23:04:04 03/13/03 Thu [1]

I have to say I am pretty impressed with the Mils team. I have spent many hours looking at all the aspects of a good quality team and I firmly believe that he (Scott Young) has made some good but contriversial decissions, this takes guts and believe me he has assembled a cross the board solid team. If I were NB or any other team I would be paying special attention to this team.
They have offence /defence and solid goaltending. Jamie Langen and Quintin Gauthierare at the top of there game at the right time. The offence will be their and so will the defence. Best of Luck by "Hockey Rules"

Lots of support helps the players to play harder, hearing the cheers and the noise makes the guys feel great. I know they haven't said it but they really appreciate all of the Fans coming to the games to cheer them on. If your going to punish a player for a mistake that they make, you better follow through and punish them all. I can't believe that you bench someone for 1 mistake. Well our home game we had lots of mistakes yet you come back with the same lineup last night. I can't believe this. Now your going to ride the fact that this line up won. No. Thanks Todd and Gauthier for finishing off the Terriers. They won the game, not the lineup. I recall many mistakes over this series that were made over and over again, yet we keep going out there for our regular shift. Make this right!

a little pressure -- Used to be a Rowdy, 20:36:21 03/29/03 Sat [1]

Maybe the pressure from all the supposed "naysayers" got the Coach thinking different strategies??? This is Hockey country and the fans do have a right to see a good club. Cudos to all who voice their opinions. Anyhow, Mil$$ are in the finals , lets band together and tame the Broncos....... Parker for Team MVP... Gauthier for Playoff MVP... GO MIL$$ GO

BENCHING -- Loyalfan, 22:07:42 03/29/03 Sat [1]

To the fans that are talking about players being benched. I do feel that some players get benched more than others and it's noticeable. Earlier on in the playoffs, the ND series, the young players wouldn't be out there in the final minutes. Kyle Smeltzer was put out of the lineup for two games because he wasn't playing as well as he can. He came back after that and I felt he played much better. As for Michael Epp he was benched and even sat a game(I had heard he was injured as well) for mistakes that he made. Both Kyle and Mike have responded well to being sat, Smeltzer playing much more solid defensively and Epp coming out and getting his 2nd ever goal. As for the young forwards, they are doing a very good job up front playing a minimal role but doing their jobs. Trapp and Magnussen, and Zulyniak have done a fine job when they have been called upon. Trapp not bad with 4 assists the other night. I feel that the coaches have benched players that they thought needed to have a fire lit under them and it seems to work. WE ARE IN THE LEAGUE FINALS. Can't ask for much more....well...maybe the Royal Bank Cup. GO Mills GO

12-1 -- Macjim, 05:53:08 03/30/03 Sun [1]

At the beginning of the year the experts said that the Mils were, on paper, one of the teams to be considered for a run at the post season best. How right they were.
Thanks to Steve and the coaching staff the team is peaking at the right time and is playing up to their ability level.
Being the Southern Champions is a new experience for most of the team. Keep the team attitude alive and going!!!!!

RBC here we come!!!!

Look at the boys go!!! -- Dan, 19:15:50 03/30/03 Sun [1]

All the stats show that the Mills are on a roll. Save %, penalty kill etc. are doing well. Keep up the great work boys. Everyone is doing their job and that's what makes a team work. Todd has been playing unreal for a guy playing on one leg. Thats dedication, that spells MVP. Go Mills Go!!!

Errors... Errors....Errors -- el prezidente, 10:34:35 04/05/03 Sat [1]

Why is it that when some guys screw up they don't see the ice. But when other guys get scored on our PP they get sent right back out there? Not trying to coach but if a PP unit is working and getting pressure why do we take them off after 30 seconds? I'll be in Humboldt tonite watching the Mils win 5-2

far from over -- not surprised, 14:03:12 04/05/03 Sat [1]

I'm not surprised that we are in a tough battle against humbolt, good things don't come easy as you mils well know. It's been a battle all season first of all to make the playoffs, then knock off #1 seed in the sherwood conf. and then with great pleasure take care of the terriers which probably felt like the stanley cup to you guys, that's why the slow start in this series, and as usual you guys will pick it up and knock off the broncos because that's just the way it is meant to be.I know you will got to humbolt beat them there and then the series will be ours.Go Mils!

Next game -- Macjim, 08:58:21 04/06/03 Sun [1]

A loss by one goal in all the games played against Humbolt. We are in the game! We can do it! I know that we are down 3-0 but it isn't over until Humbolt wins game 4. Lets play like we did when we won the last two series - everyone firing. I saw the first game and I think that the Mils are a better team then the Broncs.
It has been a great year! You Mils are able make it better. You have the talent make it a reality!!!!

Cards are stacked against us -- Ace$ & Eight$, 12:16:11 04/06/03 Sun [1]

I think Steve exercised great self control last night in NOT punching Dallas Davidson right between the eyes. Considering the quality of the officiating the last night, and the night before, it seems to me that there is some sort of hidden agenda here that goes back to the regular season. I don't want to beat a dead horse to death, but the lack of suspensions over the Parker incident with the Broncos, and what has been let go the last two games seems that no matter what the Mils do, it is predetermined that the Broncos are going to advance.
There have been rumblings throughout the league that Melville had no business in the final, but we made it through hard work and the skill and play of the team. Now it seems that the Mils have to beat both the Broncos and the officiating. The boys are playing their hearts out and it's too bad these brick walls keep popping up.

For Monday, guys, play like there is nothing to lose. Do Melville proud.

Broncos Fan -- Broncos Fan, 13:14:36 04/06/03 Sun [1]

Hey Aces and Fights, do you want some cheese to go with that whine? Now you know what the Humboldt Broncos have had to go through all season-playing agains the ref. How does it feel? Although, I do not think that the ref is for Humboldt. Two penalty shots in two nights, a clear checking from behind hit on #2 from the Broncos gets a 2:00 boarding, and lets not forget how many times you have run our goal tender. Suck it up, this is hockey. Your precious team will not always get the bounces that it wants. Grow up and quit complaining about the reffing, maybe you should look to blame someone else for your teams losses, perhaps a better and stronger Humboldt Broncos team. Good Luck to both teams and may the best team win!

Blow it out your a$$ -- Hextall, 14:12:26 04/06/03 Sun [1]

Boy am I glad the moderator of this site let this last message go through. At least Aces has the balls to tell the truth.

To the Broncos fan;
1) I was witness to the games Humboldt played in Melville the last few years, and watching your head coach throw a tantrum twice when he didn't get what he wanted leads me to believe that he is nothing more than a spoiled brat.

2) Going back to the Parker incident during the regular season, how come none of the three players who were second, third, fourth man in on a fight, that they all lost, got suspended. Kind of smells funny. Access tv has it on video, they played it during period intermissions at the beer gardens during the second series. It clearly show those clowns getting into it with Parker, and no suspensions??

3)Last night's game - every penalty the Broncos got they deserved and the blatant ones that were missed for the benefit of the Broncos, thank the ref for that. The player that cost #11 5 and a misconduct was right back on the ice the next shift. So much for his "injured" wrist. Must not have realized the Academy Awards were last week. Then there was the Melville player who was speared in the groin right in front of the ref, and nothing was done. One other Mill went off the ice spitting blood from a high stick that also mysteriously was not called.

4) The goal that was waved off. It seems everyone in the rink, the Humboldt goal judge included, saw it get SHOT in, everyone except the ref, and it still gets waved off. Can't beat the system, I guess. The penalty shot was nothing more than Davidson trying to make amends for the initial screw up. Sorry, Dallas, not good enough.

5) All year all there was was whining from Humboldt about how the officiating was against them, and that Humboldt was the most penalized team in the league. From what I saw the last few games, it was very much deserved. The slashes, spears, and general dirty play gets you all the penalties you deserve, and then some.

IF the Broncos win this series, and go on, it will be very interesting to see how the cheap theatrics and behind the scenes tactics fare against UNBIASED officiating and another BOUGHT team.

Real -- South fan, 19:56:50 04/07/03 Mon [1]

So you are already whining as if us loosing tonight is as good as done - no wonder the boys have trouble believing in themselves. I can't be at the game tonight but am listening on the radio - poor substitute but better than nothing.
Now lets set a few things straight as I don't think we want to be seen as a bunch of whiners I was at all three games up to now - 1st - Our boys have been playing good hockey - a little more chippy than is the norm for them but good hockey none the less. The 1st game was a 2 goal loss and Game 2 & 3 were ONE goal games - nothing to be ashamed about. All this commotion about penalties - our boys have been playing VERY physical in this series and that is when a team generally draws penalties and in my opinion our boys have been getting called just as fairly as the opponents - both teams have gotten away with one or two nasty things.
2. The slash on the Humb player on Sat. nite was definitely a dirty slash - I was sitting right in the midst of Humb fans where I had a birds eye view of the net at that end of the rink. There was no call for this and the Bronco player was in a great deal of pain and sat out the rest of the game with ice on his arm - I hope he is OK today.
3. The called back goal - again with my birds eye view - our own player took the net off as he was going in to once again run Humboldt's goalie(we best not complain when they run ours)and the puck did indeed go into the net - from under the side when the net was lifted and our player was on top of Skalapsky - it was NOT A GOAL - SORRY!!!!!
4. Yes, I too have been witness over the years to Humboldt Coach loosing his cool and throwing things - I have seen many other coaches do so as well. I would say this just shows that he plays with emotion(Yes I recall his playing days)and it would seem he coaches his players that way as well. It does not make him a bad guy - it pretty much gaurantees that he will have a highly penalized team. But he does deserve credit for also know when to hold his boys and himself in check - they have been playing quite disciplined hockey through these playoffs.
5. Our guys seem to have slipped in the discipline dept though - I know that one needs to play physical in these playoffs but it needs to be smart. I don't think any of us are impressed with the lack of discipline that led to our player breaking a door off the wall in a dressing room in Humboldt when he got a misconduct - I was not too proud at that moment.
6. Thee have been many slashes, trips, etc on both sides that have not been called on both sides - we are not totally innocent here either so lets not get carried away on that one - lets just enjoy what hockey is left and hope that the loosing team does not injure the player who have to go on to represent Sask. in Manitoba. If we win or loose let's be able to hold our heads up high - so far we can as we have played excellent hockey and gone farther than anyone(even us) thought we would.
I say - Congrats - play hard - we are proud!!!!

Disappointed and Embarassed -- Mils fan, 23:33:55 04/07/03 Mon [1]

I am very disappointed that the mils lost the final but I am even more disappointed by the conduct of our captain. It is my understanding that the title of captain is given to a person who shows outstanding leadership, sportmanship, motivate his teammates, and put on a good show for the fans. I am sad to see that Dustin Hunter refused to accept the finalist plaque from Mr. Kartusch. (The rest of this message was edited, please, no personal attacks)
