Any 10+ year old car can have issues depending on how they have been treated.
Having said that the Falcon AUIII is as robust as fuck. Truth is your choices - Camry, Falcon, Maxima, Verada - are all very solid. I'd go for any of them, including the VX Commodore.
Of them, if it were me I'd go the Falcon. In all likelihood it will give trouble free motoring and even if it - say, blows a head gasket - they are comparitively cheap to fix. There is no reason, with the proper maintenance, it will do 500,000km.
