Take out all the bullshit - one club tried to pay their players more, one club injected their players with drugs - look at it that way and tell me which club has done a worse thing?

I take on board the whole thing about protecting the integrity of the competition.

But if anyone says paying someone more money - remember we live in capitalist Australia not old communist USSR - is in the same ball park as potentially putting your worker's health at risk by injecting them with dodgy crap then they need their head read.

If my son played with a team that injected him with drugs that were not fully checked out and everything above board, I'd be absolutely shattered.

If the same club did a few dodgy extra payments, I'd think yeah not so good but they're just the dummies that got caught.

Massive difference.

If this happened in any of the big relegation leagues around the world, the club would've been kicked out of the league, maybe if they're lucky got relegated to the bottom division and have to work their way up for a few seasons.

Essendon have definitely gotten off light but hey that's the AFL for you. Kick them out and who's going to fill their shoes? It's all about $$$$$$

The damage this will do to Essendon won't be a fraction of what it did to Carlton. Carlton were destroyed as a club, they are not the same club anymore, the supporter base would have to be the most apathetic now in the league.

At least this time the Fitzpatrick-led AFL commission had the decency to give the process the time it deserved to be handled properly, unlike the hastiness that the Essendon-run commission acted with that night. A mad scramble to do maximum damage.....at the height of the two clubs' intense rivalry. Draw your own conclusions from that.
