Subject: But it did require some original thinking
In reply to: TT 's message, "Re: How anyone could defend the treasurer ..." on 14/01/13 8:38am

The entire right wing of the Australian population prepared to bunker down into the standard 'no spending, sack everybody, let's hope some of us can survive' thinking that characterisies their crisis management logic.

But Rudd and Swan (and others) thought differently. They spent their way out of trouble.

And guess what - it worked. Perhaps we should have followed the Irish, Greek, Spanish, Portugese, Liberal Party strategy.

And, while I've got your attenetion, can I presume that no one from the conservative side of the country has a mortgage? After all - debt is bad, credit is good. That's what you all keep telling us. And you're not hypocrites surely.

Or might - just might - there be a more nuanced method of judging a Government's management of the economy than whether there is a plus or a minus on the number at the end of the balance sheet?

PS When you think about it, 'not spending' also requires no talent whatsoever.
