Re: Just Sharing some Good News!!! -- Tina Swinimer, 13:19:34 10/03/03 Fri (hlfx32-57.ns.sympatico.ca/142.177.82.57)
Isn't it a wonderful feeling to have reason to be proud and happy for a son or daughter.I am happy for you and your son.As a grandmom of 2 cystic fibrosis children I have a double reason to be glad he is working with cf patients.I was showing a picture of Laura who is absolutely beautiful to an aquaintance and she said "but she looks normal"so many people don't realize cf people are as normal as a diabetic..their pancreas doesn't produce enzymes and a diabetic doesn't produce insulin.Laura is 24..an unheard of age for cf years ago.Kenzie is touching 16.an honor student.
Give your son an extra hug from across the ocean when you see him.

Tina, I'm so glad your grandchildren are doing so well. Leigh chose that particular ward as he has been working there for about 4 months. He has become very interested in this illness and has explained (just like you) exactly why it happens. He is working with adults.
He also said that with all the research being done, how the life expectency of someone suffering this disease is lenghtening all the time, which is fantastic.
I will give him an extra hug, he is such a caring young man but with the right sense of fun about him.

That Is good- I'm glad he's made you happy/proud parents! (A "Tissue story" here..)I rememember, when I was placing therapy dogs, i interviewd a young man of 8 with regard to getting a dog. he was at home , on oxygen 24/7, and a lovely kid.he had CF.We were talking, with Mum out of the room, and he floored me when he said.." with my dog, when I die can you give it to another sick kid?"
Unfortunately, he didn't stay with us long enough to get "his" dog... but I'll never forget him!
