Don't panic!! Goldfish will survive happily a few "foodless" days. If you're worried, you can...See if the local pet shop (large) has any free samples,...suspend tiny pieces of fresh WASHED lettuce in the tank...or MINUTE flecks of a dry cat food ground up and moistened. Gut upsets can occur with different foods, so maybe a couple days "fasting "and meditation are in order.
back to prev. messages- you made me all "homesick" again-apart from syringes outside the kitchen window, Northcote was like stepping back in time- Kids played cricket on th streets, with family in chairs on the footpaths, the ice cream van used to dawdle around the neighbourhood on hot sticky evenings, and where we were, any firework display in the city centre could be seen very well from the middle of our street! Was only there 12 mths. but enjoyed it . The rest of the time was in kew/balwyn- nice "safe" areas.

Agree with Dudo on this. Goldfish can survive months without food. In Scotland I kept Koi and Goldfish in a garden pond outdoors. Over winter I didn't feed them anything.
Fry are to be fed several times a day as they will grow up stunted if they are not fed pretty much constantly, but adults can handle a few days of fasting, it's even good for them.
Goldfish are very wasteful eaters anyway and don't actually eat everything you feed them they scatter it a lot.

Yes, I've read that they can go at least 3 weeks without food.. but I've never been game to try it! These are tank fish, not outside in a pool. I don't have lettuce (if I had money for a lettuce I could buy fish food LOL!) but I do have dried cat food- so I can crunch a little up.
Thanks too for your thoughts,Susan.
Ellie.
