Subject Author Date I read that back in the 60's and 70's that NC was the largest state pageant in the country, with close to 100 contestants and 4 preliminary nights. I think it started thinning out in the mid -70's.. (NT) No name 15:21:04 10/06/25 Mon Every County that had a Jaycee Chapter had to send a representative, so there were literally 100 contestants back in the 70's (NT) -- No name, 07:34:42 10/07/25 Tue I do not believe it was mandatory. Plus, Jaycee Chapters were cities, not counties. Some counties had 5 or 6 Jaycee chapters. (NT) -- No name, 14:20:47 10/07/25 Tue Western Piedmont very rarely missed the Top 10. Same with Garner. I can't remember which Miss NC, maybe Patsy Wood was contestant number 1 out of 100 and won.
