 As Miss Garner, Patsy Wood was contestant no. 1, but out of only 60-something. The peak was 98 in the mid-60s, but dropped off after that. Not every county had a contestant, as several counties had multiple representatives. Wake, for example, had titleholders for Wake County (based in Fuquay), Apex, Garner & Wendell. Elkin Valley made the top 10 most every year in the ‘70s, including all be year with Kathy Fleming as 3rd runner-up.
