Subject: I've always thought that asking reigning queens to provide anything was pretty tacky. If you are going to run a preliminary either be prepared to solicit sponsors or dig into your own pockets to keep the ship afloat. These girls entered a competition, spent money to compete, got a scholarship, usually that covers about one textbook, now they are being asked to buy something else at the end of the year. Bottom line, if you are not prepared to do the work necessary or cover any financial needs yourself, do not sign on to run a preliminary. Let someone else take the franchise. Most directors work full time jobs and almost a second full time job dealing with queens, mamas and grandmas that sometimes can be hard to deal with for FREE! All because they believe in this organization and what it teaches and does for your daughters. Shell out money from their personal pockets? Find more sponsorship in all their "extra" time? Girl PLEASE! What the actual heck. You are ignorant and need to be more thankful what these directors and committee members do for your girls. A $65/$75 gift of a crown box to ease their burden is nothing in comparison to what they all poured into your child for an entire year! Shut up! The incredible Executive Directors and Committee members within the NC system do an immeasurable amount for these young ladies. I can speak from experience that they pay for things out of their own pockets so that these young ladies are completely prepared come June. Trust me when I say there is no line to take over or start new preliminaries, so if we go with your idea we would absolutely loose competitions and this program would sink to the bottom of the ocean because I am not sure if you are aware this is a volunteer organization.
