Subject: But they chose the girl that year that those 5 judges preferred. Pageants are very subjective. There is no "right or wrong" girl if the points are added correctly. Have I been disappointed sometimes? Yes, very. I personally think that NC has let several Miss America's slip through the cracks, the ones that we know about, plus a few others. But, as they say, Beauty is in the Eye of the Beholder, and pageants are a very subjective sport.

In reply to: 's message, "The board most definitely favors certain committees. The state board also gets to choose the judges. It just takes one judge with an agenda to throw everything off. That’s why the top 5 (and even the top 10) can sometimes seem suspicious. I’m not sure how you can change the local ED’s out every three years, that would be difficult. But, we do need new state board members. Not that the current ones haven’t done well at times but we have an aging state board. They know too many people “in the business” and choose their judges from their friends and acquaintances. Until leadership changes, these problems will persist. Definitely compete if you want but don’t expect different outcomes because they keep “picking” the wrong girl." on 12:27:45 01/04/26 Sun

It all comes down to the judges and who they know (board members, mentors, local ED’s/board member, and coaches). You can’t un-know information told to you even though and all anyone wants is a fair competition, there are people that want to control the narrative. It’s as simple as “who do you like this year?” “What are your thoughts on Miss…”. It’s difficult to make things fair. The board was looking for someone who would be present in the community this year, not someone who would place at Miss A. Its political, the world is all about who you know. Unfortunately, it’s a moving target. Sorry, life’s not fair. (NT)No name18:05:53 01/04/26 Sun
